Is it OK to cut/paste scoobynet threads into other places?

Is author permission needed?

I'd like to send the occasional thread to the ABD Member e-mail list, but need to know if this is OK first.

I'd suggest that you email Simon De Bank direct. Although providing thesourse of the material is clearly shown I wouldn't have thought there'd be a problem.

posting a link is fine.

Strictly speaking, the author of each post is entitled to copyright in his/her own words.

Since this whole forum is in the public domain, it is unlikely that any legal challenge to copyright issues would be succesful.

unless through copyright theft someone makes an extortionate amount of money, in which case, it may be possible.

The copywright of all material on scoobynet is the property of scoobynet, no matter who it is posted by.

We would be completely happy for the ABD to contain a hyperlink to any threads on scoobynet, but written permission must be sought to allow the actual copying of content from scoobynet and pasting onto another site.

IIRC, the webmaster retains copyright over the database of combined posts and the presentation/design.

However, the author retains copyright over the original text of their individual posts.

I went down this road on another discussion group a few years ago, whereby the owner of a mailing list owner tried to assert copyright over it, to prevent me from indexing the mails and providing a web-based search engine of the posts. However as each posting was the copyright of the author (and they had given permission) the list master had no grounds.

There are layers of ownership/copyright.

Also.. there are different laws in different countries.. and so forth.
