I know this is a 'wanted' subject mods but I need maximium exposure very quickly for Sipie who is searching like mad today for a gearbox after his let go a few days ago.

Nobles say it cannot be repaired or rebuit and quoted him £3500 for new box and clutch fitted

In short he needs MY99 gearbox as soon as possible - can anyone help please?

I can give you a number of a supplier to call if you want.

Edited to say i've got one but think it may be best to keep it.

I think the problem is that sipie is kinda stuck with nobles given that he took it to them first and the gearbox is now lying in bits on their workshop floor! He's been searching all day so we'll no doubt get some sort of update tommorrow when he returns to work.

I remember seeing a guy in there on Thursday, It was a BDM with Synchro troubles (sounded like it had a full decat system), was that him?. The dealer openly admited that the boxes are pathetic when it comes to selecting reverse gear (how proffesional)

Can you let me know how he gets on? because Nobles aren't my favorite people at the moment and it would be interesting to hear how he gets on with them, given that i'm not the only wary customer.

Cheers!

Could have been him. He's just had his car colour coded but no decat. The swana bb is relatively loud though. At first it was thought to be syncro troubles but it turned out to be far more sinister. I still can't believe they want that much for a new box and clutch fitted, I'd probably just hang myself!

I take it the car is out of warranty, how many miles has it done?

the reason I ask is that my old man has a vauxhall and a friend has a focus diesel.my dads car blew a head gasket out of warranty and vauxhall paid 50% towards the repair.my m8's focus, also out of warranty, has just had a new turbo fitted and he only had to pay 25% towards the cost.both cars had been out by about 6months and both had put the cars into the dealers for diagnosis.vauxhall instantly offered the deal, while ford started off by giving him a price for supply and fit for a new turbo.my friends son owns a garage,so when he said he would just get him to repair it with possibly a second hand turbo, they then offered a 50/50 deal but he still felt it was too much, eventually ford offered to pay 75% towards it.

yup - I'd deffo be on the phone to Subaru Warranty for a 'Goodwill Gesture' on this! - even if its only 'free parts you play labour' - which does happen frequently - lets face it it's only JUST out of warranty and it's a major mechanical component!

It done near 80k miles unfortunately and has been very mildly modified. I expect they'd tell him where to get off!

back box and filter will not have affected a gearbox, the 80k might be a problem.still would try it though.

I would try, but i can tell you what that dealership is like. They offered me a set of 4 pots when i didn't really need them. 1 month later, when i badly needed new brakes, the price jumped up by £100 I told Them where to go.

£3,500 is outrageous - for a about grand less you could get new box that is just about unbreakable!

Also - try someone like Grade-A Subaru or TownEnd Garage - they are always breaking Subarus.

Must have been pretty serious if the whole thing is buggered!

Red face

Thanks Saxo Boy for making this post on my behalf.

Pete Croney... Thanks called that number you gave and the guy denied all knowledge about having 2 in stock. Said he would ring me right back and that was 2 days ago now! Cheers anyway.

Crushinator.... That was me all right. Nearly pi55ed myself with the "they never go into reverse lark" but just take everything with a large pinch of salt from that lot. I've found them to be pretty honest and helpful (mood dependant though!!!!) and in all fairness they have done nearly as much work as me trying to source a good replacement box!! Sounds like you were enquiring about a 90k service if you are the guy I think you are?

Update...

No idea why the box went as yet and it's a lot more than syncro. 3 teeth off 3rd gear decided tospray their way around the whole box!!!

Nobles have since managed to source a box from a 19k MY99 in North Yorkshire and it is currently being fitted today. They are going to offer a guarantee on it and I'm getting it pretty cheapish so no grumbles really. Conveniently getting the clutch fitted labour free (obviously) so all not bad!!!!

Nobles say they have never seen one go this badly (normally repairable) and after pricing the repair work, parts alone would have been £760 and no guarantee that the box would be 100% quiet after putting it all together.

Had to laugh at the guy at Jap performance parts who I quote said "these things never go man... they're bomb-proof"

Apparently not.

Cheers again Saxo Boy and beware of gearbox noises!

Your welcome I'm just glad there seems to be some sort of light (albeit still an expensive one) at the end of the tunnel. I have noticed my gearchanges have become more gentle in the last few days Paranoid.....MUCH!!

Just spoken to Nobles and they are fiting the new box and clutch as we speak and they will let me know later today when they have it up and running.

Make that a pint of water Kenny as I doubt I'll be able to afford much more mate!

Pete.... thanks again but if this box runs ok then I'll just need to go with that one. If not you'll hear from me shortly!
