Wiltshire beware! Unmarked Honda Accord typeR
#1
Saw a red unmarked Honda Accord pulling over a Saab on my way home last night. Fast stretch of road between Yatesbury and Cherhill.
Seen some speed traps here before esp. Weds when there's a bike meet in Avebury, but haven't seen this beastie before.
Is anywhere safe for a good blatt on a quiet evening?

Yep, seen it stopping a motorbike in Swindon the other day. They also have an unmarked black accord type R number plate ends in RHR as does the unmarked omega. It has a big black box in the back window, and three arials. Hope this helps.

If you want a blast head out towards Cotswold water park on the A419, some good roads out there. 419 is a good road but theres lots of gloucester police on it. Top gear magazine used to shoot pictures of their cars on the road by the water park. Also head out on the A420 towards oxford, theres some good roads off the 420 but watch out for cameras on the 420, there are 8 in total between oxford and swindon.

Thanks Toofast. funnily enough just off to Cotswold Water Park for a blast on a mate's JetSki. Will have a nose at the roads around.
Familiar with the Oxford-Swindon road as before I moved to Swindon area I used to come in that way. Since getting a radar detector found that only one was live last time I did the run! Havn't plucked up the courage to ignore them yet though.

Good roads round swindon:
b4000 to newbury out past wanborough, baydon (spoilt by 50mph section round membury/lambourn - anyone know why this is there especially on the mile straight??).
most of the roads around wroughton are pretty good: wroughton to avebury, chiseldon to wroughton, out to barbury castle, through hodson...
a429 (fosse way) is normally pretty clear - couple of speed cameras though - full of tourists during the day.
there are lots of small roads around - most of the checks seem to be on the major routes.
a419 often has checks, a420 is a nightmare due to the 50mph limits and cameras.

been driving these roads for 12 years.. you really need to watch out for horses in some areas, especially nr Swindon to the west (purton/lyd millicent) - they are always about in the daytime somewhere or other.
the Ashton keynes road across to Wotton Bassett used to be good but it's in an awful state now - surface is breaking up and subsidence is terrible.
try the malborough downs road though - across from malborough to wroughton (well, white horse) - one of the few good roads that let you see what's coming for stretches.
