Cool

0W40 is not suppose to be very good for impreza turbo engines. Personally I use Mobil 1 motorsport 15W50 as recommended by the guys who look after my MY00 WRX (so not worried about an IM warranty). I think IM actually recommend Shell Helix but I dont know what the rating is.

I think Halfords sell it now (mobil 1 motorsport), maybe wrong though.

cheers

.......tried to explain to the dealer ref the IM update that 0W-40 should not be used (as posted on the BBS!).

They stated that IM can`t tell a dealer what oil to use as the dealer may have various agreements with the oil suppliers.

I can bring my own oil in if required. Assuming they can`t get hold of the 5W-40 Mob 1 what oil should I buy??????????

They will use shell semi otherwise! Help - is it 5W-50, 10W-60 or 15W-60 I want???????

Thanks

Reckon I've seen 15W50 in Halfords and the like. That would be better than the 0W40 your dealer has. Quenby's in Herts have 5W40 but they have this shipped in in large quantities and I can't say I've ever seen it before in "shops".

Friend of mine got some 15W50 (motorsport) from france at £15 for 4 litres - bargain.

Numerous threads have stated that 0W40 is probably OK for the winter when you want it to be a little "thinner" but for the summer most would recommend 5W40, 15W50.

Not sure about Shell - probably as good but most stick to Mobil 1 (rightly or wrongly).

I think I've seen 5W/40 fully synth in Halfords - their own brand. Not sure they stock Mobil 1 or any other known brands in that grade.
