Question

I am trying to move my front number plate. Has anyone tried this?

The two screws that hold the brakets on dont seem to be standard. I thought I had the correct screw head but they are strange screws.

Any ideas.

Changed my plates on MY00 last week, but didn`t have a problem. The screws fitted were the standard coloured plastic screw which you can buy in any auto shop for number plates, and screwed into the inserts OK.

Unhappy

Took my number plate bracket off last weekend, ended up having to drill out the retaining screws which was a real b***h. The screws look like they should fit a star drive, but they have a pin in the middle which prevents a star drive fitting (unless youv'e got one with a hole up the middle!) This pin also makes getting a drill central very difficult. No way at the back either as the nuts are welded on.
So drill (and lots of bits cos I broke loads) it was.

From Dave's description they are security Torx screws. If you don't have any joy before, I'm in Dorchester area Fri/Sat/Sun and can bring a set with me.

Hi guys
Shall we make this a 'Dorset' only page?
I dunno where you want to put the number plate, but it won't be any good on the back!
Ron
p.s. we're thinking about another meet if you're interested!

The nuts are welded to a metal bracket which can be removed. There are two clips which hold the bracket in place. When the bracket is removed you can then get a better purchase on the broken bolt. Also if the holes drilled into the plate are slight out of line then they will easily break the bolt. Been there done it !!!!

i purchased a set of security Torx drivers, from LES SMITH apprantly it's the "motor mart for evert part" well it does seem to be, as i couldn't find any eleswhere.
Once you have them, the brackets come off a treat, les smith's also sell regulation sized stick on plates and numbers/letters to make up your own, never got stopped once in the 14 months i had the car.

Maplin sell a nifty set of security screwdriver bits for a few quid - all the torx bits, hex, splined etc. Some of the interior trim is held on with torx head screws too.
