Right, since Independant have shut shop, I have had to get some quotes for my renewal next week. (Thanks ro Tom @ Schofield for his continued and past support)

I have rung 12 firms up. 7 refused to quote me, these are the other quotes from the most expensive:

1) £16,000
2) £8,938
3) £8,000
4) £7,000
5) £5,686

What the hell? I know I have had a claim recently, but come on....

Excuses provided were:

"We don't insure Jap Imports"
Erm, theyre identical cars!?

"Youre too young"
FFS, I've been hearing this since I was 17. I am now 28 and have had a license for 11 years.

"The car is group 20"
Fine, but why is it categorised in the same league as an F40? Its only worth 24k.

"High risk area"
WTF? Its N London, hardly Moss side, is it?

Lets hope something comes up soon.

Painful reading

I take it you've tried Tescos / Direct Line?

Your best bet might be to buy some boy racer magazine, and just work your way through all the adverts.

The first quote wouldn't be form Insurance World would it? They told me they did not insure imports at all, when I phoned about my EU import Scooby

Problem is that you look about 12!!

Having lived in Moss Side (OK about a mile away) I would say there are worse places in London!!

On a more serious note, have you tried Greenlight. Despite my accident they were the cheapest place for me, and that's on quite a heavily modified car, with everything covered like for like.

And I thought I got some silly quotes!

Cheers

Cem,
one question, does the car have a tracker fitted?

Reason I ask is that I'm in the same boat, so have to move to another company pretty quick, but I have jap import, plus modified, plus it does NOt have tracker, so that rules out direct line as their on web system will only do it with tracker.

fancy letting me know who you tried, so I can avoid pointless calls?

What's wrong with the Costa-Del-Moss-Side ???

Try these lot they only realy deal with fast Jap cars like ours and saved me over £200.

Cem - I'm in exactly the same boat...

Anything from £2500 to £10000, and the car is only group 18 and is only worth about £21000

Managed to get it down to £2350 with a £1000 excess

Not happy

I also got the refusal to quote, too young and too high an insurance group comments!
Hmpf...

yikes!!!!

I know that my missus insurance has LEAPT this year on her humble civic vtec.

Hopefully insurance is now at the correct price and we wont be seeing any more underwriting losses. Im not convinced tho

I was quoted approx £16000 for my old Celica insurance. After I picked myself back up off the floor I noticed that someone had had finger trouble and the value was £60000!!
I know it had one or two mods but £60000!!!!!!!!!

We really really really need a good SIDC/Scoobynet insurance deal.

Think I should wander off and talk to one of our senior underwriters.

I have just had a ring round the usual suspects re insurance for the girlies Puma.
Admiral still came up cheapest quotes ranged from £ 1200.00-560.00 F/C.
Not sure about Admiral and imports but i have found them the cheapest for the last 5 years, prior to the Puma she had a MR2 which was only £375.00 Fully comp.

BTW my Impreza insurance is £ 960.00 Fully comp business usage unlimited miles any driver over 25. I am 36 with no claims or points (YET!) throu CGNU - now Norwich Union

Good luck.

Thumbs up

I'd just like to add, a big thanks to Rum for trying to sort this, I know hes having a nightmare at the moment.

I for one, am not happy about moving on to another insurance, as the service provided by Rum's company was spot on.

Its exactly why I sold mine and went for the Golf...

Ok, I have some points, but that said...I am IAM qualified, and also have 4 years NCB....

Did'nt stop em wanting best part of £4500.00 for a wrx!

Cem, call Keith Michaels and mention Kev Walker, tell him hes your mate, you were recomended to call him and see what you get...It might work. Kev, my mate has been insuring cossies with them for some time now (since 95), and hes never had a claim...nor have the people he has recomended to them It might help, I hope...

Some of these prices are nonsensical You could get a motor trader's policy (fully comp, ANY vehicle, named drivers) for around £3.5k so how can any insurance company justify more than that for insuring a single car?

I glad I live in Norway. I pay £690 for my MY97. However, the car is 60% more expensive than in the UK (WRX MY01: £32.000), so it only becomes good economy after 20 years of ownership....

Well,

I have found some SENSIBLE quotes now. But I suppose it was just a matter of time. Just needed to get some more calls going (which is a pain)

Quotes now coming in between £1900 and £2500.

My MY00 Impreza Turbo will cost £555 to renew with Frizzels at the end of this month. 34yrs old + wife as named driver, protected NCD and £250 excess. Cat 1 alarm is not even required and it doesn't take my barrier deadlock into consideration. I live in Ipwich and had a £11,300 claim on my Elise two years ago.

What are you all doing to get such high quotes?

Rob.

Simple, get a UK Scooby, you'll get cheaper insurance and a better car

Or ask the muppets - I'm sure they will insure you

Good luck
