[tongue in cheek mode on]
Ahh but evos are for ex-scoob owners who need electronic driver assists as they are getting on in life .
[tongue in cheek mode off]
Actually due to the fact they didnt build as many there are few about so you get a bit exclusivity but having driven both I prefer a scoob and definitely not worth a lot more but each to their own I guess.

Just been looking at old Shape STi prices and they seem to be considerably cheaper than equivalent EVOs. Makes me wonder why do people go for the latter? No doubt EVO owners will trot out the better potential for mods but seeing as most folks only seem to change minor items like exhausts and air filters is this really justified?

For a 6 expect to pay about 19k for a decent one. When I bought my 5 I got offerd a 6 in that horrible pascal blue colour 35k miles for 18k. There are some 5's out there for about 14k but the milage will be high. I paid £16750 for mine but it is mint and had 19k on it.
Good luck in your hunt.

More exclusive
more tunability
better handling
better resale value, and the yellow is nice.
You missed the biggest selling point :
OPTIMAX TOP TRUMPS CARDS as you will need to fill up every half an hour

Hmmmmm

More exclusive
Yes because the didnt make as many as nobody wants them
Difference is scoobys were cheeper so more were sold.

more tunability
yep but most arent and those that are arent cheap to do.
Compaired to a scoob? Depends on how you look at it, fact is it's a stronger engine.

better handling
on a track maybe on a road
On both.

That becuase 2nd hand they cost more. Buy a 2 year old STI for 5K less and in a year its still worth 5K less but you havent got that 5K tied up in a car.
That is because there are not 3 pages full of ones for sale in the auto trader unlike the scooby.

General misconception I can get £30 in my tank I could only get £35 in the scoob. Not much in it.
Don't get me wrong I love the impreza, had some of my best days in one. Trouble is they got far too popular and value has sunk to the point when all the scumbags are puchasing them. It's now at the point where if you've seen one you seen them all. (with the exception of the 22b)

No argument from me hence all the and been around scoob and evo owners along time. It comes down to personally preference and the scoob does it for me, still not heard a sweeter sounding EVO, the scoob for me had more plus points than the EVO and recently looked at an E7 as I would want a new one. The 7 doesnt do it for me, sadly, I wanted to really like the car and didnt, well not 10K on top of mine like, straight swap maybe . Not to say I wont look at an 8 might turn into a billy-no-mates at local meets though .

I own an Sti5 and seriously considered an EVO 5 at the time.
Hers's how I see i:
EVO - better round corners. stronger engine. relatively rarer.
Scooby - better looking. more comfortable, especially long distance. easier/cheaper to get parts. longer and cheaper servicing. sounds better. Absolute bargain price.
servicing every 4500 miles? thats a joke for anyone who really wants to use the car.
Scooby wins overall.

It's only the AYC that fluid that needs to be changed every 4700 miles and it's soo easy to do. I do my own as did the fellow before me. So it's not a service as such those are about the same as scoobs intervals.
Another misconception.
LOL but it's not as nice a yellow as dandelion.
Got me on the sound, though mine does sound more like a superbike when on song.
I will have another one day, pity I couldnt afford both.

crypt you could get a sti6 in yellow just nitpicking

evos are better built , engines are stronger, look meaner, better tunability. infact, i cant think of one way my sti5 was better than my evo 6...honestly.
ive had my evo 5 months now, and havent thought once about selling it (i was getting through cars at a silly rate before it ). i love it more everyday
love coming over to scoobynet though, some great folks on here (although mlr is good too ) but i wont go back to scoobys....ever.

I have to admit to seriously thinking about an EVO6.
Still am thinking - but spending time on the EVO board it seems for starters that 6 drivers spend a packet on brake discs - new front every few thousand miles it seems !!! Due to the warping issue & no-one seems to know why it happens !!
Petrol costs don't worry me - 180-200 miles from a tank of fuel in an EVO & 280 or so in a Scoob I can live with that as I dont do long distances (& if we do I take the wifes car)
But I have to agree.....an STi5 for 13-14k or an EVO6 for 18-19k makes the Scooby look great value for money.
I dont think many owners of either want to go much beyond 320 brake & thats quite easy on both cars without serious mods.
For me its about change. I have owned 3 Turbos over the last 6 years & while thats a record in terms of length of ownership for me - I fancy a change.
Exclusivity - well yes the EVO is more rare.....I do see 2 though on my way to work every day which is 2 more than I see of Scoobys !!

steve b, i had a 330ci, which compared against a uk scooby (which ive also had), there really wasnt that much in it IMHO.
do you prefer it if i say that scoobys are the most superior car on the planet and nothing can touch 'em? dream on. they aint

Although I would prefer an Evo, I wish to try out the RS rather than the GSR
Why?
I dislike ABS (personal choice so don't try to argue for it )
I don't want the AYC, I prefer a real feel rather than the assistance it provides.
Once I have had a chance to do that I will be able to decide whether I should go for one.
I have driven the Evo 5, but I am still swayed towards the scoob.

Theres an EVO buyers guide in the new EVO mag I had through the post today. Just make sure the AYC is working as it cost 2.5K to replace . I could get an scoob engine rebuilt for that .

A good comparison for these cars is the Japanese Best Motoring VCD series. They put proffessional drivers in each and go "nuts" round circuits, cone tests, 1/4 mile etc...
I have the latest in this series, EVO 6.5 vs STi6 V LTD.
The STi was faster over 400m. 13.1 versus 13.4
The EVO was quiker round the circuit, by 1.2 seconds.
The cone tests were almost neck and neck but the STi came out a fraction ahead with the driver using excellent handbrake turns to better effect in the STi.
They then raced the two with a R-34 round a snow covered circuit, the EVO left the other two behind with its AYC.
They then did donuts in the snow, winner there clearly was the STi, spun on a dime....for what thats worth. lol
In New Zealand the late model EVO's are maintaining a very high re-sale value where-as the Suabru's not quite so good. Availability is one issue, but also the tunability.
Several EVO 6's and 5's running in our import drag racing are achieving 12.5 1/4 miles with very limited modification. Whereas the WRX's which are running similar times have way more development needed.
Im obviously on the side of the Subies, but wouldnt like to put down equally impressive cars which the Evo's obviously are.
