When are the new smaller number plates coming out?

1st September this year but they will not be smaller plates. The text is slightly narrower to allow the use of a euro logo at the edge. The number of places that will be able to supply plates will be greatly reduced. My local shops won't be allowed to make them!

Just to back up what Duncan has said. I got my new plates from from gtgrafix - good service and prices - plates were ordered at about 11:45 AM and arrived the next morning in the post.
The font used on the new plates is 'Charles Wright' if you're interested.

GB type plates will only be mandatory on new cars from the 1st of September. The new font is slightly smaller (79mm x 50mm) so if you get rid of the GB/Euro badge you can now legally have a slightly smaller plate. (assuming it's registered before Sept 2001.
