Roof Rack
#2
I've got Thule roof bars and they are superb. Really quick to fit. Get the ones with the quick fit system.
Check out http://www.snowchains.co.uk. I bought all my stuff from them and they are really helpful. Other cool thing about the Thules is they are really easy to change from one car to the next. Just bought new fittings for Wifes Mondeo (which has roof bars). New fittings on end of bars for £50 and away we go. Some cars only need new clamps (£25ish).
Sorry, check out http://www.roofracks.co.uk/main/products_index.htm for the roofrack systems. Same company just different link.

Thule bars are good but they can't be used on cars fitted with the smoked wind deflectors as the hooks need to grab on close to the rubber door seals.
My only other concern was that the piece of plastic that it hooks on to doesn't look that substantial (although admittedly I've neverheard of any falling off!).
For these reasons I bought the Subaru item which is a bit fiddly to fit first time but is rock solid and lockable etc like the Thule item.
Neil.
Edited 'cos it didn't make sense

Under the plastic trim is special areas for the roof bars to clip into.. it is difficult to see them at first but the Subaru one definitely slots into them.. Makes sure you fix them into them otherwise you'll end up with roof rack contents and the plastic strips all on your bonnet... I presume the Thule system must slot into them too..

JGM2. I know the ones you mean and yes they are hard to see initially.
The Thule model however doesn't use these, they just sit on the roof on large rubber pads. I know this because I actually bought the Thule system and had to take it back when it was obvious that my deflectors got in the way! (this was despite the packaging saying that it fitted all models).

Didn't know about the special points under the plastic trim. I agree the trim doesn't look particularly robust however the Thules hook under ok and are rock solid. If the Subaru ones are no more expensive than the Thules and you don't think you'll need to switch the bars to a different car in the near future, maybe best to get these.

Of all places IKEA do roofracks for 30pounds for most makes of car. The Subaru one(Model No.6) fits the saloon great and once you have done up the four bolts that hold it on it is rock solid (my 60kg load didn't go anywhere.) Holds up to 75kg.
