As the weather has been really nice over the last few days, i've had the Aircon on.
Well, shock, it makes my MY02 Sti run like a right pig. Through traffic it very "lumpy" on and off the throttle and I also almost stalled it infront of the security guard today at work going over some speed bumps.
Is this normal or should I get the dealer to check it out?? I also noticed a puddle of water under the car a few weeks ago when I had the aircon on for a long journey, but nothing since..
Thanks
Gareth.

Puddle of water is ok. My Aircon is fine, the manual says it shuts off under hard acceleration.
Are you sure it's nothing to do with the hot wheather bringing some other fault/feature to light? Is it repeatable?
Take it in and have it checked.

I've never had Aircon before, so i'm not really sure how it affects the car. If I switch it off, the car runs fine.
When you switch yours on when driving, do you feel the car "lurch" slighty??
Gareth.

Hi Gareth - yes, the 'lurch' is caused by the compressor cutting in, and momentarily taking more power to 'boot up' as it were.
The puddle of water is exactly that - it's moisture that the aircon has taken from the air in the car, and condensed. Nothing to worry about.
As for the poor running - well, mine's slightly slower, but not so bad as to cause stalling or lumpy running. Maybe wise to have it checked. Admittedly, however, I leave mine switched on all the time (MY02 WRX wagon), as it works as a fully automatic climate control.
Cheers, HB.

Mine runs like a bag of poo when it's really hot (regardless of whether the aircon is on or not). Had the same problem with all our scoobs. First 5 miles or so when they have been parked out in the sun they are lurching, almost stalling and very un-scooby like.
Just put it down to a feature.
Never had this problem with my beamer perhaps another car swap is imminent

Yep all normal mate,
In hot weather the compressor and cooling fan are working overtime cutting in and out, while your trying to smooth the throttle they are cutting in and taking power.
You notice it a lot less with Automatics and large capacity engines but in hot weather most cars, especially 4 cylinder engines of two litres or less, suffer from what you describe.
Don't forget when driving slowly over speed humps etc you are off boost so are just driving a standard 2.0litre so the compressor and fan could be switching up to a 5hp load on and off the engine, the engine management does compensate but you will still feel the effects you describe.
