Question

Say you pay your car insurance monthly by direct debit, sell your car, don't get another, and are not worried about any NCB, can you just stop payments, or are you liable for the term , ie 12 months ?

If your insurance premium in instalments was arranged via a finance house such as Premium Credit, you will almost certainly be liable to the finance house for the full amount if you do not cancel the policy.

If it was done direct with the insurer, you will be liable to them.

In both cases, if you do not advise them to cancel the policy, you will be pursued for the full amount.

If this is a real situation, you need to read the paperwork you filled in when you took out the policy.......

Well then, at fear of stating the obvious, you contact (WRITE) your insurer and tell them

BTW - noticing your profile, I presume you do not need your insurance any longer as you are off to Kiwiland...

Dave, you seem to know a little bit about insurance so any ideas on the 'legality' of this one. Is it possible to 'insure' an imaginary car to build up NCB. Just a theoretical question....honest
