Question

Hi all, just curious to see whats the diff between an RB5 and a standard UK turbo? (apart from cosmetics) is it just that most came with PPP or does the RB5 have another trick up its sleeve...

Cheers

It had a solid rear bulkhead, the same as the Sti's.

Nope, nothing special unless you consider 17" Speedlines and a quickshift as tricks

hmm everything Ive read on the RB5 suggests its just a standard impreza on 17"s with a quickshift, no mention of stiffer body shell? I was just wondering why it seems to be different

cheers

titanium 17" wheels
solid rear bulk head
limited edition of 444, some 100 odd were pulled back for the PPP, there are about 386 left now.
quickshift
PIAA driving lights
Blue alancantra interior
red trimmed floor mats (nice clash with the blue!!!!)
engine has some work done to it for low & top end range

I believe the engine work was limited to the fitment of the PPP, which is exactly the same as any other MY99 - new ECU, intercooler hoses and exhaust. Even that was only fitted to the RB5 WR, the standard RB5 has identical performance to the ordinary MY99.

RB5 also had the map reading lights that came to the standard UK car with MY00, and the RB5 WR has the bigger spoiler, of course.

Andy.

shoot me down if I'm wrong but I think only 162 were the WR spec from new, some may have been done since.

I've read in a review article about the RB5 that there were 156 too.

a strut brace wouldn't stiffen it up as much as having a solid rear bulk head.

Not too sure about 'Solid rear bulkhead', but i think they had a solid rear seat...i.e. no passthru'/split.

they didn't have split rear seats because of the solid rear bulkhead.

Talking

The rear bulk head is 5 times more bulkier than the standard UK Turbo's rear bulk head bulkiness.

Hence the name RB5, they were going to call it RB*5 but they thought it was pants and changed their mind.
