The ultimate tuning device costs £30!

A few months ago I was planning to do some serious upgrading on the engine. You know... you get (too) used to the power after a while.
But then - an old man (92!!!) tried to park his car inside mine - with some success. This resulted in a rental car for me a couple of days. The rental car was a VW Polo 1,0 MY01 – provided by the insurance company (note: 1,0 indicates measurable horsepower, not volume).
After a few miles I discovered that the only time I could sense some acceleration, was when I used the clutch. It’s true!!! The car is faster in neutral than in any other gear. I soon discovered why a hat comes as standard equipment with the Polo.
The good part was the day I got my own red arrow back…. Having got used to on/off throttle Polo-driving I flew out of the garage. It felt like riding a 3000 horsepower rocket. The next time I get £1500 ideas of upgrading, I’ll do the same again. Rent a Polo 1,0! It’s only costs £30 a day end the effect lasts at least a month!

Have to agree here, I drive the wifes Kia Shuma/Mentor,1.5L, 90hp on weekdays, once the weekend arrives and rexy comes out, feels bloody fast, after driving the KIA all week. I really appreciate the scoob as you see the huge difference, not only in power but also handling, driveability.

I drive my wife's 306 diesel (non-turbo,0-60 = 6 minutes) occasionally and you're right getting back into the Scoob afterwards and it feels like an F1!
Be careful though there are repercussions! After driving the Scoob a couple of times she now wants something much quicker = more expense + higher insurance! Are there adjustments that can made to slow it down prior to other people driving the car!!!

Know what you mean Morten, but try putting up with a 1ltr polo for two and a half months while some dodgy repair centre replaces two door panels courtesy of a young girl who tried to park next to my car. Then get the car back with an extra 250 miles on the clock, even though it was taken on a transporter.
Have to admit that after all that I spent a plesuable whole day blasting the scoob around, especially since it now felt like an XJ220!
