Red face

Have you red my previous threads over problems with my car!
Anyway I have just been told that my car is again not under any extended warranty even though i only bought it 3 mths ago, i would all check this out on invoices if it applies to you!
If a car comes to the end of it's three year warranty, it must have extended warranty in place straight away as if a gap between the two occurs it is not eligeble for the extended warranty ever again!
So my car being 3yrs 5mths old when i bought it for £14K from intermoto is not under warranty and i am responsible for:

1: Recovery of the Vehicle on a Tilt recovery truck
2: The cost of my hire car loaned to me per day
3: The repair on an ECU->Fuse Box elecrical fault, new syncros on 2nd and third and repair on the air con that never worked!
All in all a rather sad result.
4: I am paying £9 per day (work it out!!!) for insurance on a car with no date of return.

Wouln't you think that buying from a dealer and getting F**ked off at the high port IM could claim back monies for me due to breach of contract on the warranty as they were subaru approved.

So at the moment Subaru have passed the book and so have the owners at intermoto, The guys at intermoto are checking this "clerical error" and are getting back to me.

I am going to see my solicitor tomorrow!

Any ideas people, anyone had any dealings in this sort of situation!

I'm off to cry!

I know you are upset about a warranty issue, but I have tried to follow your threads and am pretty confused about what the issue is?

1. You bought a car that stated it had a current warranty? Was it an IM warranty or aftermarket variety?
2. Did you get a warranty booklet with the car that detailed the warranty conditions?
3. If it was an IM extended warranty then surely if there was a gap from the 3 yr one, then as IM issued it, the problem is theirs?

Sounds like an awful lot has gone wrong in the short period you have had it. I don't want to be condescending but I have to say however good a reputation a car seller has, always get an independent inspection of the car. They may cost IRO £300 but they are always well worth it.

Hope it gets sorted ASAP

I have also been following this topic on and off and from what I gather the car was bought from what was a franchised dealer who has now gone into receivership, although the parent still exists.

Deerhunter I have a very very long shot for you which may just be worth a try.....

In one of the tabloids a few days ago (mail I think) it was reported that one of the import specialists had folded holding some £300,000 of deposits. Lots of calming voices came from other importers such as Virgin, but more importantly a representative for the UK car industry said along the lines of "the moral of the story is buy from a Franchised Dealer, then this won't happen to you."

It may be worth a call to a couple of news desks to tell them of your story...... it may put pressure on someone somewhere.

Like I say a very long shot

Unhappy

As you know I've followed this pantomime from day one and have every sympathy.
Just pleased I relied upon my instincts and never bought from them.

I really don't understand the warranty issue and to be honest think it's just another smokescreen.
The original warranty can only be extended within the lifetime of that offered by the manufacture. Fine, that's understandable and other companies insist(or use to)that the OWNER sign up within the first year. This is a customer option, not trader/retailer one.

I am certain you can purchase Subaru approved cars that are more than three years old. i.e. underwritten by a third party with the premium paid by the dealer.

First thing to establish is were Mondial paid. If so you/Intermoto have paid in good faith and it's their error. As you received no documentation this may not be the case. But in those circumstances why did they respond to the breakdown? Recovery organisations check that you qualify for the service.

You had earlier questioned the validity of the warranty in respect of the a/c. Why were you not advised of the lack of cover at that time?

There is no doubt you have been well and truly shafted but the question is by whome. The whole episode is now becoming so confused it's difficult to tell but my gut feel is that it'll be down to our friends at the Rocket.

As I understand it Intermoto or the underwriters are in breach of their contract with you, if indeed ther is one! Therefore costs would be recoved from you and you would need to claim from Intermoto. Unfortunately if they went for voluntary liquidation that company no longer exists.

The whole thing confuses the hell out of me, who exactly is sorting this for you? Is it the guy who sold the car? If so he will be covering his tracks you ned to raise it with senior executives at Jaguar House.

Seems a total nightmare, and to add insult to injury as I recall they didn't pay for the work you did for them. eek!

I'm in the same boat as DeerHunter - bought a MY97 Scooby from Intermoto last July and was told by the salesman that I would be given an extra years warranty on the car (usefull as the 3 year manufacturers one was about to run out) since it was "Subaru approved". He didn't say whether this warranty was with IM, Intermoto themselves or a third party but if I had any problems to get in touch with him direct.
When I heard Intermoto had gone bust earlier this year, I had a look at the purchase invoice but there was no mention of any "extra" warranty so I'm not too sure where I stand should I need to make a warranty claim in the next 6 weeks. The roadside assistance wasn't even mentioned - good job I kept up my RAC membership!

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Alex

Thumbs up

Things are looking up - firstly i can aswer a few queries:

A car older than 3 years can be extended WITH SUBARU indefinitely! as long as the warranty runs from the 3 year warranty end CONTINUOUSLY onwards as the car will always be kept tip top by subaru!, if you leave a gap you cannot go back and apply for it. (this is why subaru say no warranty as between 10/10/00 and the day i bought it 16/03/01 it was not covered so is not eligible) intermoto however did not go bust. (unofficialy they lost the subaru franchise!!) so still have all documents and they have been recovered to Jaguar House by all the lads who were at intermoto, they are faxing them off to Subaru as there is a "clerical error" and tomorrow Subaru will start work again on the car! - this was quoted by the general manager of Jaguar house! - Plus they have dug a big hole now (5 days telling me i have a warranty and sending me all over the place - if i don't have warranty with Subaru then it will have to come from The Holding company as they are still responsible as intermoto didn't go pop but closed of its own accord so they will have to pay for repairs and sort 3rd party warranty / breakdown cover from somewhere else or just keep paying up evertime something goes wrong till the end of warranty.

Pi55er is though - I cannot keep extending the warranty with subaru each year! and due to the nature of the car it could save lots of cash in the long run!

Fingers crossed though i will have work stated again tomorrow and have it back by next week!

Just an update for anyone that is bothered anymore:

Went back to Jaguar House as off the record i was told that they were paying the repairs themselves! I asked them 5 questions:

1: Who is paying for repair of car - "We have authorised repair until we have sorted out the 'clerical error' with Subaru warranty.
2: Is my car covered by a third party warranty as they give far less away? (eg noisy wheel bearing or turbo is a failed item to Subaru and replaced but general wear and tear to 3rd party warranty co. and not covered) - "No your car is covered by a Subaru warranty and Assistance"
3: Is my car a Subaru approved used car - "Yes"
4: Can i renew my warranty WITH SUBARU as allowed when my 1 year extended warranty runs out? - "Yes as long as you renew before expiry of your years warranty"
5: Will you put all of these facts in a letter? "Yes" - Can I have it now? - "No I don't have any Intermoto letterheads here" - When will this be? - "By the time the car is repaired HOPEFULLY" - Are you going to write a note for yourself you fool as i know you ain't going to remember (in my head).

Left feeling slightly better but still a little bit "Fobbed".

Good to hear you're getting there, slowly but surely! How do you apply for this extended warranty with Subaru then? Looks like it might be worth it in the long run.
