Cats eyes Cameras
#1
Heard this little gem on a Radio news broadcast today. The police are apparently testing out cameras located in cats eyes. Big Brother or what? This should really improve police/driver relations Grrrh. Doesn't it make you want to spit.

This was in Auto Express recently. They can do you for speeding, report on accidents and various other things.
Remember, cars are nasty boxes that we are not allowed and must not be allowed to enjoy, drive quickly, with enthusiasm. Every measure must be taken to stop anyone found enjoying driving their car.

As I was riding home tonight (through the soon to be 18mnths roadworks on the M11 ) I wondered how they were going to get the perspective markings that showed that you travelled a certain distance over a certain pre-ordained time...
Otherwise, you might say that "I took 2 pictures only because the vehicle was exceeding x mph" Yeah - right
So still need convincing on this... & visual perspective markings mean warnings of activity etc - have I missed something?

Im just wondering how much more road works are going to have to be done to feed power to these new cameras and i take it they will also be digital so they will need some sort of feed to a box at the side of the road????

Perhaps they'll be solar powered with wireless (bluetooth/GPRS) connection to a node at the side of the road? Easy to install and quick.
I don't think the lens will last that long without being scratched though. Especially if we all drive over them constantly.

I would suggest moving your rear plate too, after all, they obviously can't photo the driver from such an angle, so the rear plate would be a more likely target. From what I recall, these cats eye's gizmos were originally designed to give warning of hazardous weather conditions and or other hazards ahead... I think they were supposed to change the reflective colour/emit another colour as a saftey aid.

This has got to be the ultimate spoof! Sadly i haven't found any direct evidence. Lots of SPAM e-mails, but no proof.
OK. let's make some assumptions - Cameras in Cats Eyes, ha ha!! Even the camera in the test cricket wicket is unreliable, let alone "speeding convictable". As for robust - ha ha again, as even cats eyes fall out. Wide angle - pah! Power - where from? Calibration? How?
Can someone PLEASE give us a pointer to the spoof web-site with info to put this one to bed!!

I can remember my boss saying exactly them same thing about a Hewlette Packard 286 about 10 years ago. (Our first server cost about 60k - it had a 20 MB hard disk and a 8 Mhz processor.)
