Stone chip protection - Is it worth the bother??

Have seen threads about a 3M product?? that sticks across front of car and protects from stone chips? Does it work? How much is it? Does it look stupid?
What other products are out there?
Any good tips/advice? or just get front resprayed every so often!!

I have Armourfend fitted to the front of my car and yes it is definitely worth it, I only wish I would have done it from New!
