I would get some insurance quotes on UK and STI or WRX cars before choosing... STI's are great, but Insurance on Japanese Imports is getting more expensive all the time... more so than insurance in general, it seems.

I'm driving a late 93 jap sti. Cracking car and extremely fast. I'm 26 and my insurance is £1002 + I live in N Ireland. The insurance company is Quinn Direct in the south of Ireland.

PS mine is for sale

Do yourself a favour and buy a nice, clean, straight, 1 owner UK std.car.

No need these days to take second best - the days of the 'grey' are over - the Trader is full of them - look for a UK car, plenty around these days.

pete , fancy meeting u in this thread
in defence of imports....
IMO you get more for your money performance wise as standard. i'm no expert, but this is what appears to be the case. i spose you could then mod it, like you can with a uk car.
in my own experience, i havent found any uk dealer ive used to be worth a wipe. some were downright clueless and incompetent.
luckily for someone like myself, i have scoobysport just down the a12, and a great performance specialist called dragon autosport in colchester. dragon run rings around any uk dealer ive met in terms of service, enthusiasm, and knowledge.
uk cars worth a lot more? dunno mate. i spose warranty is nice, but if u buy a uk r plate privately, u aint getting a warranty.
i know who i'd rather have working on my car.
having said all this, i'm hoping someone with a lot more knowledge than me can explain more. i'm keen to learn on this subject

For insurance phone Lee at A-Plan - 0845 0711234, I'm 28 with full NCD but with two claims... (was protected) I am insuring a '97 STi for about 850 but thats in sleepy Dorset....

If they can't help this years runners up were surprisingly Adrian Flux and Keith Micheals.

Hope this helps.
Rich.

£850 sounds about right, just out of interest, where did you get your sti from... can you recommend anywhere to buy from

I agree with most of the comments but as an STI import owner, I have to say that the power is noticeably better than a UK spec.

I am incidentally selling my much loved STI 5 door (blue with gold wheels) for around £11,900. Low mileage long MOT and tax, cosseted, full service history, Cat 1 Thatcham, Kenwood 10 disc changer, separate bass bazooka, etc.

Insurance through elephant.co.uk for £850 in Hants area.

Er, just got off the phone to A-Plan, nearly £3000.00 to insure my Teg, Tesco's, £1713.00.

Perhaps it would be more beneficial if you have an import, but thats a way big difference
