hi,
just heard my boss is flogging his 01wrx... he's fed up of being stopped by the police...
He's had the car 3months, and has been stopped 5 times
He said once for speeding, nuff said, and the other times have been randomn stops where either the officer admits he was just checking or they come up with a spurious reason and end up giving him a bollocking of one kind or another for something SO trivial ..
dirt on lights (during day driving) etc..
So thanks to the minority who justify the negative image of scoob drivers he's going to flog his...
shame its not a P1 or I'd have it
EDITED TO SAY:
My boss is 28 and a very sensible chap (hes a director and a programmer too... so he's not with the backards baseball cap brigade)
anyone else had increased problems with plod and randomn check since you acquired your sccob??? ..

Is it that bad if they are checking for being stolen? I they are just being *******, fair enough, but stolen checks are good IMHO.

thats the point. stolen checks are fine. he has no probs with it.
but pointless hounding over very trivial matters where the officer clearly has no purpose but to initimidate him..
and 4 randomn stops on the same car/driver in the same area of notts in 3 months??? thats a bit crap imho.
They could do the stolen car check with their computer surely?

I have been driving Scoobs for 5 years now, and never been stopped once. I suggest it's a combination of where you live, how fast you drive, what you drive and luck that will determine if you get stopped (in that order).
Someone who works with me drives an Audi A6 2.7 Twin Turbo, drives like an absolute lunatic, and never gets stopped.
I suspect your boss is blaming the car for his own heavy right foot. The car only goes as fast as you make it.

possibly clubby, although he only got stopped for speeding the once.
other times were randomn checks with no *real* reason.
Is notts a scoob drivers nigthmare then?

Stopped the other week for small number plate on the front. Happened to know the female traffic cop so got off with a warning.
What annoyed me most that they almost caused a pile up on a busy dual carriage way u-turning to get after me.
How many novas/clios do we see with illegally scripted plates front AND back. Bikers are even worse!
P.S. I was also wearing a cap as I was going to the golf course!

When i got my first Impreza (in Jan 2000, a MY00), all my mates told me that i would be stopped left, right and centre. Thus (i kid you not) i bought an autograph book, which i kept in the glove compartment, to keep a log of all such inconveniences (with, or without the signature of the associated officer).
Since October last year, this book now resides in the drivers door pocket of my MY01 (the glove box is just too small!), but it still remains completely blank.
Maybe i am just lucky?

I've had my car 2 weeks and i've been stopped 4 times for "random checks'!?! I am 22 but the car is always kept spotless and sensibly driven around town and this is where i always get stopped. I pointed out to them it was an inconvenience and the reply was 'would i rather a theif got away with my car' to which i replied 'if my car was stolen i wouldn't be long in letting them know. They then gave me a horti and told me to 'go home'?!? Why the hell do i pay road tax!!! Sorry, it just annoys me though. Talking of which, there was a blue scooby with tinted windows seen one of the incidents in Hamilton across from the Jet petrol stn on the way to Fernigair and gave us a cheeky we wave. If you're out there you know who you are

In 4 years and 2 scoobs never been stopped but deliberately followed ie. parked up drove past and they pulled out and followed me probably long enough to check the car and they turned around and went back.
I wouldnt mind being stopped for any owner check to be honest as long as its not every day

Ive had my scoob two weeks now and so far (touch wood) no hassle.
I did get stopped in my Pug once as I had pulled out the garage without lights on. Got chatting to the coppers and they told me they only pull somone if they draw attention to themselves.
If they have seen you a couple of times booting it around they may not be able to stop you at that time, but you can rest assured they will if stop you when they see you next regardless of how you are driving.
I live in the Richmond Twickenham area and have never personally sufferd from the plod with any of my cars Beettles in the weeds with loud exhaust etc, Gti's and such but I've never really driven like a loon.
So I reckon its mainly down to where you live, how many scoobs get nicked and how you drive.
Is it mainly the P1, 22b and STI drivers who get stopped as they tend to stand out a bit, or any type of scoob?
