Apparently this is hush hush as the govt are supposed to be trying to stop what happened with the last petrol crisis and the panick buying.
I have it from a good source that Shell drivers will be striking tomorrow first thing. Obviously it will take a few days for stations to run dry but as soon as it is common knowledge no doubt people will be running around like last time and using up every last drop.
So top up tonight if u can. Hopefully its a hoax but best to be safe.
Simon.
P.S. For all those "we dont use shell" replies - shell also supply a few of the supermarket petrol stations (not sure which ones).

I can confirm this...having read this thread I went to the local Shell station to top up, I still had half a tank. The attendant said that she had only just heard of the strike and looked into the Optimax tank which had 51,000 Lts in it. How long will that last you I asked....Tomorrow was the answer....Top up now boyo`s

I think these drivers have a bloody cheek. They already earn ****loads of cash (~24,500 per annum before ot) They were offered 4.5 % but want 8 %. I think they are greedy. Thats more than most people in Stanlow earn
BTW its not shell drivers. They are actually working for P&O that has the contract for shell fuel delivery. They suck ***! I hope they are sacked personally.

Just checked with a friend at one of the oil storage depots and the strike is off. Panic over?? Or just until they can think of something else to strike about? Seems to be the fashionable thing again to strike!

Might be a bit of a bad move on the drivers part. If Shell lose money, they may consider using another logistics company to deliver their petrol, and when P&O lose what has to be quite a big contract like that, they are going to have to make redundancies.
Now I think I would rather take job security and 4.5%.
(BTW The company that I work for gave an across the board rise of 3% in the pay review last January)

"P&O Trans European oil tanker drivers have called off a strike that would have halted fuel supplies to Shell service stations over the weekend."
"The strike has been called off with immediate effect," a spokesman from the Transport and General Workers Union said after a pay dispute was resolved."
"P&O's offer to the workers was a 5.5% pay rise for one year, backdated to January this year, and a further 4.5% increase in 2003, the union spokesman said."

I wouldn't have minded a pay rise of 5.5% either
I think I will go on strike
The pay rise that was allocated to us operations staff was 2.5% - the drivers and warehouse got a 7% rise!!

Just walked into my local Shell this morning to fill up. I asked the question directly as to whether they were on strike or not. The guy said no, everything was normal.
Whether that's bulls$$t or not remains to be seen.
