Apparently this is hush hush as the govt are supposed to be trying to stop what happened with the last petrol crisis and the panick buying.

I have it from a good source that Shell drivers will be striking tomorrow first thing. Obviously it will take a few days for stations to run dry but as soon as it is common knowledge no doubt people will be running around like last time and using up every last drop.

So top up tonight if u can. Hopefully its a hoax but best to be safe.

Simon.

P.S. For all those "we dont use shell" replies - shell also supply a few of the supermarket petrol stations (not sure which ones).

Erm this is no hoax, my local shell station is already out of petrol and closed!!!! Wondered what the hell was going on!

What the fook do I do now? I am an Optimax junkie and wont use anything else!!!!! Time to start going to towns up the road I think and checking there!

P1Fanatic 18 July 2002 07:22 PM

lol so much for it being a panic if peeps have known about it since the 10th. Ah well I'll still buy some tonight to get that elusive ferrari trump card.

Active 18 July 2002 07:46 PM

I can confirm this...having read this thread I went to the local Shell station to top up, I still had half a tank. The attendant said that she had only just heard of the strike and looked into the Optimax tank which had 51,000 Lts in it. How long will that last you I asked....Tomorrow was the answer....Top up now boyo`s

I think these drivers have a bloody cheek. They already earn ****loads of cash (~24,500 per annum before ot) They were offered 4.5 % but want 8 %. I think they are greedy. Thats more than most people in Stanlow earn

BTW its not shell drivers. They are actually working for P&O that has the contract for shell fuel delivery. They suck ass! I hope they are sacked personally.

Just checked with a friend at one of the oil storage depots and the strike is off. Panic over?? Or just until they can think of something else to strike about? Seems to be the fashionable thing again to strike!

SWRTWannabe 19 July 2002 08:51 AM

Might be a bit of a bad move on the drivers part. If Shell lose money, they may consider using another logistics company to deliver their petrol, and when P&O lose what has to be quite a big contract like that, they are going to have to make redundancies.

Now I think I would rather take job security and 4.5%.

(BTW The company that I work for gave an across the board rise of 3% in the pay review last January)

Sheepsplitter 19 July 2002 09:05 AM

I think the strike might be off.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/bus...00/2137300.stm

"P&O Trans European oil tanker drivers have called off a strike that would have halted fuel supplies to Shell service stations over the weekend."

"The strike has been called off with immediate effect," a spokesman from the Transport and General Workers Union said after a pay dispute was resolved."

"P&O's offer to the workers was a 5.5% pay rise for one year, backdated to January this year, and a further 4.5% increase in 2003, the union spokesman said."

Chris L 19 July 2002 10:54 AM

Blimey I wouldn't have minded a 5.5% pay rise back dated to January - got bugger all this year :(

Chris

Little Miss WRX 19 July 2002 10:59 AM

I wouldn't have minded a pay rise of 5.5% either

I think I will go on strike

The pay rise that was allocated to us operations staff was 2.5% - the drivers and warehouse got a 7% rise!!

SWRTWannabe 19 July 2002 11:01 AM

See, I bet it was my post that brought them to their senses :D:D;)

P1Fanatic 19 July 2002 11:02 AM

Ha I got f*ck all rise this year too - what a piss take.

AlexM 19 July 2002 11:16 AM

Pay rises? I had to take a 10% pay CUT over Christmas!

wacky.banana 19 July 2002 11:27 AM

Just walked into my local Shell this morning to fill up. I asked the question directly as to whether they were on strike or not. The guy said no, everything was normal.

Whether that's bulls$$t or not remains to be seen.
