Can anyone enlighten me on the engine ecu etc
differences of the wagon / car .
I noticed in drivetrain someone was told to get a new ECU
BUT NOT FROM A WAGON I though except for the gearing the were
the same.
This is MY94 >> not new ones.

thanks joby

Hi joby not B Joby is it?

i wasnt aware there was any differance with engine or gearing between the wagon and a saloon, not on the same years anyway?

i know engine specs and outputs changed from year to year but thats about it.

there are a few different ecu's flying about on different MY (model year) cars, green label and brown label and the pink one oo er STi, bt still not aware that a wagon ould make th differance more the model year methinks!

thn im a tart nd probabl got it all wrong;(

they are the same, except wagons have (supposidly) better handling.. i forget why - something like they have a different rear strut(possibly weaker) which is better that the saloon...

other than that they are the fastest wardrobe transports money can buy

and you get a rear wiper, a hatch, rear head restriants, different rear spoiler and a cloth boot cover...

Have to change the name to star wars.

I thought they were the same also.
Maybe 93 /94 were bad years for both wagon & car
and this is what was being refered to regarding ECU's

edited to thank snowcrash for the reply and I think the handling
is better because of the extra weight ??

no probs - i've not heard of a difference in ECU's???

the only ECU issue i have heard about is the MY00 one (which makes the engine stutter and do wierd things) and putting a MY99 one in cures it...

unless you are talking about a MY which had an ECU change in the middle of the year (i.e. i think P reg cars changed a lot from the start to the end of the year). My friend has 2xP reg wagons, one looks like a P reg or older wagon (farmer seats - different bonnet, bigger turbo), the other one looks like an R reg car(racing seats, different bonnet/grill, mid-sized turbo). So this could be the reason...

Joby...may the force be with you!

i remember VW jetta 16v always handled better than the golf equivilent, coz of the better balance over the rear wheels.

so on that theory shoundnt the saloon handle better than the hatch? more even weight distribution?

mind you you would have to be bloody good drivers to get either one to its limits on the road to find out which handled the best!

think the 94 spec car came with 208 bhp so not quite as pokey as the later ones.

off to feed chewbacca

Cool

Not sure about that?

some of the pistons and cams vary with different models?

you will have to get one of those festering types out of drivetrain, they will tell you!

off to tend to my flowers for the morning service

Early MY WRX 5-doors had the smallet TD04 turbo
The 4-doors had the bigger TD05 ?

Plus probably ECU differences

And the wagon gearing is lower I beleive

I get 20-21MPH/1000rpm in 5th in my wagon
but as the speedo overreads somewhat it might be as low as 19MPH/1000rpm (like the type R)

Wagons are slightly heavier but UK spec wise they were 208bhp upto 98 and 215 99 onwards.

If you are taking Japanese import then tended to lag (no pun intended ) in the power stakes until later MY's.

Japanese import wise WRX wagon had 220PS where as the WRX saloon had 240PS but the STI saloon and wagon both had 250PS.
