Just been driving home and two questions sprung to mind:
At one point I put the foot down in 2nd but very quickly lifted off due to road conditions ahead. However, the percieved hazard never occured so I floored it again and the car sort of lurched then full boost came in with a violent thud feeling/noise from the rear. I assume this was just a ****** at the drivechain and that its normal under those throttle conditions....confirm/deny?
When I get out of the car, even if I've not been particularly booting it there is a funny smell, sort of a burning smell. No idea what it is but is this normal? Could still be a plastic bag that melted to the exhaust a day or so ago but I think it's done all its melting already!

From my point of view the jerk/bang is normal on mine. Just the slack in the drivetrain.
The burning smell..... not sure I have smelt a burnt bag type smell yet. I can smell a corriander (sp?) type smell from the wax wizard engine cleaning done a while ago.

The smell is your crotch...no, i mean clutch
They tend to smell a little if you've been sitting on a hill junction holding the car at biting point.
They stink the car out for a whole day after a hammering at Crail

I've had that smell a few times after booting it around, or trying some fast pull aways. It smells like an exhausty type smell, but I reckon it could be the clucth too.
As for the bang of the drive train ... my MY99 does the same, but a friend of mine thinks it's something to do with the 4 wheel drive?

Phew, I'm still trying to perfect my scooby gearchanges and noticed the following results. At high revs I can feel and hear my foot engaging the gas just before full release of the clutch thus giving it a whirrr and hence the associated smell. If I get it right the change is lightening quick and is associated with the thud......seems I can't win Both seem normal and as my motor-memory (2nd year PE terms) improves so will my changes.
