I'm sure that when I'm really thrashing the car I sometimes get a orange light flick up the panel.Never managed to focus on it because it happens at about 6.5 to 7k rpm and I'm trying to keep my eyes on the road.Any ideas?

There's a ggod chance that it's the camshaft sensor. Fairly common, I've just changed mine after exactly the same symptoms.
