Is this obsessive
#1
Just been teased by the wife and the lodger over my parking protocols. They've called it obsessive and weird.
They think my rules for parking the car are way OTT
1. Never park near an old beat up car
2. Avoid cars with baby seats, 4X4, transit vans or 2 door cars(unless a sports car)
3. Try and park on the end of a row
4. Find the biggest space you can
5. Park in the most obvious and public place, well lit and near the CCTV cameras.
and the real (for them) clincher
6. Make a mental note of the make and reg no of the cars parked next to you.
Is this wierd? or as I see it i've spent 27K on a car and it's protecting my 'investment'

Neil,
how "twentieth century" You need to carry a digital camera, and take pictures both before and after parking! No room for error that way

3. Try and park on the end of a row

"Try and park on the end of a row"
Preferably with a curb and bushes on one side. Get as close to this as possible, leaving as much as possible for the car the other side.

I used to get annoyed when Dave would park as far away from all of the other cars in a car park. This usually meant a half mile trek to whatever shop we were going to.
However, since I got a massive dink in my car, I also do some of these things! So not obsessive at all, well maybe apart from the numberplate thing!

I don't think it is obsessive at all.
I park as far wawy as I can, get as close to the shrubary, park under light and in sight of CCTV camera.
When parked up in a hotel in Bristol I even took pictures of the car parked next to me and how much space I had left on my passenger side to get in the space.
I think it is perfectly normal behaviour. Although people in the office joke about me having my favourite car parking spaces.

sounds weird to me,
my rules:
1. park as close to where im going as possible
2. only take the keys with me if i'm gonna be more than 20 mins (i hate a big bunch of keys in my pockets)
3. errr, thats it.
4. you sure?
5. yep, no more rules.
6. ohhh! heres another...i have baby seats so i always park near people who have rules about not parking near me!

if all else fails, park next to a car that is more expensive than yours, hopefully (as long as its not some old dear) they will not want to bang their pride and joy into yours...
Every other point very valid
IT.

If spaces are limited I try and park between 2 cars where one has reversed in so that no drivers doors are adjacent to my car. It's not foolproof, but it does improve the chances of avoiding damage.
My wife also thinks I'm a tad **** about parking, especially when she has to walk further to get into Sainsburys!

maybe he was stunned into silence at the arrogance of someone trying to justify their inappropriate use of a space reserved for those trying to deal with shopping and kids as opposed to those simply dealing with a lazy inability to walk the length of a car park?

Seems fine to me!
Was parked at homebase today. loads of empty spaces, parked up. Came back - old proton in the space but 1 next to me. Had my door open as was getting something out and about to go under the bonnet. Next thing I know I hear an engine. Look up and out of all the spaces around, and a completely empty row behind, THIS PRAT WAS TRYING TO PARK INBETWEEN ME AND THE PROTON EVEN THOUGH MY DOORS WERE FULLY OPEN
I stood there, gave the tw@t a very evil and rolleyes sort of look, after about 10 seconds and realising I wasn't going to close my doors, they decided to reverse and park the other side of the Proton.
I mean - WTF!! are these people stupid
Made a point when they got out of the car to say to my mate in a manner in which I could be overheard, what I thought of their attempt!!!

Tiggs,
Completely agree. This has all ben done before, and i personally don't want to re-hash it all again, but i would also come up to you personally and ask you to move out of a parent/child spot.
For those of us with kids who have had to park in regular spaces because of drivers with no kids taking up those spaces, please be more considerate.
They are there for a reason. Not for people who think their Scoob is their "baby"...

Those mother and baby spaces are there for a particular reason - the main reason being to get all the mothers with baby buggies, pushchairs, plus other kids etc concentrated in one place so they can bash all like minded cars to their hearts content. I wouldn't put my scoob anywhere near these spaces. Yes, you may feel that because theres an extra foot between doors that its better, but believe me you cant fit a shopping trolly down the side of two parked cars in the normal spaces. But little Johnny can whilst mums struggling with nipper into the buggy that conveniently fits down the side too.
The way I see it is that if the car park is too busy to double park, or those favoured spaces have gone then I'm in the right place at the wrong time - I don't feel defeated whilst making that tactical withdrawl
