Thumbs up

I'd always go fer a UK car - no hassle with servicin or parts. However, with 9k, yer lookin at an old/high mileage one....

Wouldn't like to go down the old "dont touch an import with
a barge pole" routine again. There are pros and cons for both
Uk supplied or grey import. Initially it was the cost saving
that made imports more attractive but as the prices have fallen
on used cars so much it now becomes more a matter of preference,
i.e what do you want from the car?
Jap spec vehicles tend to have more power and more options for
your money, but the down side to this is that insurance costs are
getting ridiculous. For the kind of money u are talkin about
spending, Riftzone is right- the Uk car will tend to have high miles
so it becomes a balance- what u might have to spend on parts for
your high mileage uk car you will probably spend on extra insurance
for your WRX.
Regarding servicing and parts: I have had a Jap spec STi for three
years and have never had any problems sourcing the few parts I have
needed. There are plenty of suppliers who have most parts in stock
for the WRX and can supply them next day. Only down side I can see
from Jap cars is that re-sale value is not as good on a like for
like basis, but saying that you pay less for them in the first place and if you are after a Subaru service history then you will
not get a Jap import with that but it does not mean to say the
vehicle hasnt been properly maintained.

One other important point about Jap cars is the level of underseal
that they recieve is not up to our weather, so it is important to
get a car that has already had this done or budjet 2-300 pounds to
get it done.

Hope this helps,

Dougie

Go for a Jap import but do your homework first. See the SIDC FAQ http://www.sidc.co.uk/faq.htm
