Saw something unusual today, and wondered if I'd seen a Prodrive/MG development car...
Saturday 02/06/2001 around lunchtime, spotted at the junction of the A449 and M5 Junction 6 (North Worcester).
An MG 75 (ZT? ZS?), in WR Blue (ish), with what looked to me like Prodrive PD7 wheels in gold. 17"+...
Now, it would be strange enough to spot an MG like this, but with those wheels, and the announced colaboration with Prodrive/MG on the new V8 saloon - Was I lucky?
Mr. Wood, any comment?
(Didn't notice if it had normal or trade plates)
Any one else spotted something like this??
Cheers,
Squizz.

Blimey! Coincidence?
I didn't get a chance to hear the MG saloon. Obviously a decent exhaust running off a yank V8 is quite distinctive.
I remember I used to see a 75 estate every day whilst going past Longbridge on the train starting about a year ago. It was a white one sat atop some other ones in the corner of the compound. So much for secrecy!
So what's the Worcester/Kiddy connection for either Prodrive/MG or someone else tuning Rovers/MG's ??
I always liked the 75, and always fancied getting one slammed on the deck with OZ super T's and getting the V6 supercharged, etc...Hopefully Prodrive will make a great job of the V8. I'd love one!

I saw possibly the same car as you about 3 months ago on the M42 at about 7am on a Sunday morning. IIRC it was quite a light metallic blue and definitely had big gold wheels and a fairly big spoiler.
It was doing 68-70mph and I went past it slowly looking sideways at it. I think the driver clocked me doing it 'cos when i slowed down to 60-ish to let hime go past to have another look, he slowed down to even less and stayed resolutely behind me.

Strange coincidence - we were at Listers today picking up our new MY01's, and at about 17:45 pm saw THREE MG 75's on trade plates at speed in convoy on the Worcester to Stratford road - very close to your sighting.

Squizz,
It was probably one of the new X range of MG cars. There was an article in evo magazine earlier this year.
Personally, and I hate to admit it, the Rover 45 version looks very nice.
In the magazine it was almost sonic blue in colour with a scaled down version of the Sti type rear spoiler, and running 17's.
Can't remember what engines they are running, but they are supposed to be pretty powerful.

Sorry, meant the "Prodrive" Mr.Wood...
Interesting stuff, don't you think - Yeah I kinda assumed they'd been giving it large on the Welsh roads for testing, and were on their way back to Longbridge or something.
Like I said a light blue MG 75, with all the proper MG front and lowish rear spoiler. Oh, and damn big PD7 style gold alloys.
MartinM - Stratford road, eh? Towards Stratford...And then Banbury?? Prodrive country. (After all, I don't think they MG have stuff in Cowley anyomre do they?)
PS. I used to work for Softlab that did the IT stuff for Rover.

It was a MG 75 (ZT), running on temporary compomotive wheels (the correct 18" ones are not used yet). They also won't be gold.
The V8 is still in a garage somewhere yet to be released.
