Dealers - Good Ones/Bad Ones
#2
I have had two extremes of dealers today. One excellent, one terrible. Both garages are Scoob main dealers and both are somewhere in Berkshire. (No Libel here SDB!) They will remain nameless. Both visits/calls were to the service department.
The first was awful. They had never done a 20k service on an new WRX! Busy then!!!! He was unsure of what a ITG panel filter was. He was not sure of the benefits of a body service, when I asked he says in a manner of why bother.....
"don't see many rusty subaru's do you?" he says!!!!
Went rather strange when asked about uprated springs "ohh invalidate warranty", no the prodrive ones I reply, "oh those, why bother?" how much are they, I ask, so he promptly spends ten minute looking through the wrong parts list. "They don't do them for the WRX car mate" They do, I said, then he just looked at me rather strange and said if I could find a part number he would try to get them. Unbelievable!!! He wasn't interested in selling me anything. He wasn't even that keen on pricing up a service!! I wonder what IM or Prodrive would think of if I was a mystery shopper?
And wait for it, this bloke was not an oily little oik but the "AFTER SALES MANAGER" of a major Subaru dealership. I know, I asked for his card at the end so I could write a letter to his boss.
Get this
I wanted a service 220
Body service 100
Springs (prodrive) 400
Tyres 500
TOTAL 1220 quids
And future servicing as I now work just up the road from him and it would be easy to arrange etc. Am I going to use them? NO. Will I ever frequent that outfit again? NO. Will I ever reccomend them to my friends, two of which are actively looking at new WRX/STI7's. Absolutely not! I would be embarrased. He in ten miuntes, lost what could amount to thousands of pounds profit for his company.
So........
I call the other dealer.
I was called back in less than 5 minutes. I will not use names but the guy in the after sales department knows his stuff. And is an absolute star. Good quote on the service, advice on tyres, collection and delivery service offered, spring quote off the top of his head, benefits of going for dampers as well, even talked about PPP for a bit (which I am saving for!!!). Discount for some stuff for SIDC membership as well. Brilliant. They way I expect dealers to be after you buy 20k's worth of car and want to spend more.
He was very friendly, very knowledgable, very keen on his cars and just downright excellent. If service goes well, I will also be writing to his boss.
My faith is restored.
