UK wise I dont think the 02 was any different to the 01 WRT the 5 gear ratios and diff. The UK STI was as it definitely has the suretrack and 6 ratios.

UK WRX 02 ratios are :
1st 3.454
2nd 1.947
3rd 1.366
4th 0.972
5th 0.738

UK STI 02 Ratios are :
1st 3.636
2nd 2.375
3rd 1.761
4th 1.346
5th 0.971
6th 0.756



I am still confused on what you are trying to compare as I think you must have a slightly different spec cars in Australia. Are you comparing 01 WRX with an 02 WRX or an 01 STI with and 02 STI ? Also the UK didnt have a 01 STI as such.

im not sure what the UK(you guy's) have, but here in aus we have the 01 and 02, the 02 came out with a few changes,ie suretrack front diff, shorter gear ratio's etc...
If you guy's have the same changes, would any of you have a comparo between the 2??? Ive tried everywhere and ever mag here in aus but there just isnt one, anyway....any helpers??

The UK WRX 01 to 02 were just cosmetic stuff IIRC. The suretrack was only fitted to the STI model wasnt it ?

 

No, in the 02 we get shorter gear ratio's, front suretrack lsd, window intergrated aerial, outside temp guage thingy, but it only has a single disk cd player.

Sorry for the confusion, im talking wrx's. The changes ive mentioned above are between the 01 wrx and 02 wrx. Over here our mags didnt have much of a write up on the 02wrx, and no comparo, i was hoping you guy's had the same changes done and had a comparo between the two....it was a long shot i know but i had to try. Still have not found one ANYWHERE

Different aerial - its in the roof rather than on it... and theres a nice glowing surround to the ignition key bit..........

If memory serves, the Suretrac was used in place of the usual rear differential. Ratio's are definately different with a shorter 2nd and 3rd and a moderately longer 4th and 5th remains all but unchanged.

Melbourne STI "enhanced" MY02 STI

 

Here in South Africa,
Gear ratios, aerial in window instead of at top of door, single disc frontloader(think RDS), and most important a better quality boot carpet.

 

In South Africa - I'm not sure about the ratios and diff, the
spec sheet is the same on both.
The 02 is however, 20kgs lighter, loses the 6 disc unit
in favor of the single din and has the internal aerial.

Anyway guy's cheers for the replys, i was thinking of moving on to (our) 02 wrx as owners say that the in gear acceleration is a lot better, i just wanted to know by how much exactly, but i suppose ill wait to see the new look 03wrx first which will have different headlights and some rear end changes, but all i want is a six speed with shorter gearing
