Hit and Run in Newark Friady 28th June
#1
I travelled to Newark on Friday to stay for the air show at Waddington.
Whilst travelling to the hotel,on a stretch of road I don't know the name of but has a new housing development called 'Waybury' I think, (near A1 junction) I was hit by a Mk2 red Golf GTi.
The t*t had appeared from nowhere, gone to overtake me and clouted the offside rear on my car.He was forced over to the other side of the road from the impact, and continued to speed off into the distance.
The guy was going so fast, I had no chance to get the plate number.Even though I went after him, I had no way of catching up.
I had wife and kiddy in the car, and luckily we were not hurt.Had he hit me an inch further in, the story could well have been different.
I know it's a long shot, but if anybody in that area spots a car of this description, which will have at least some damage to it's near side front, and no doubt copious traces of Reddish Blue Scooby paint, I'd appreciate a reg no.The police were informed, but without a reg can't do much.
I now have to look forward to a hike in my insurance premium, thanks to this hooligan who could well have killed us as well as himself.
This was my first ever collision experience, and it's sure made me realise that it doesn't matter how good a driver you think you are, it's the other pr**ks on the road that make the difference.
Be careful out there.

Could have been a stolen car, so in a way it's better you did'nt catch him up as the driver could have been armed etc. That's of small comfort, I know but at least you and your family are ok.

On a serious note I went to Waddington airshow last saturday. I know quite a few lads in newark area so will ask around. Newark is quite a small place(Hillbilly territory).
Not being funny but when the guy hit u from behind, surely you had time to get his registration when he overtook u? Golf Gti's aren't exactly in the 911 territory! Or did u expect him to pull over??

Popeye,
Believe me, If i'd have had chance to get his plate, I would've done.He was going at warp speed, and because I didn't even see him in the mirror (it was on a gradual bend), it happened so quick. The other thing is that as he was forced over the other side of the road, he pulled up a load of dust off the road.
Maybe in the fist millisecond, I may have naively ecpected him to stop!

Hi Sal,
Thanks for the comments. We're on the trail....hopefully.
Why is it that people driving like complete idiots seem to be more the rule than the exception ,these days?
