Question

My96 UK as often as not, will emit hot oily type smells from scoop after having pulled up ! ( once or twice small ammount of smoke )
The car has done some 90k but with FSSH, & 1 previous lady owner ( honest ). No suspect exhaust emmissions, no obvious oil leeks,
should I be concerned or just trash on harder ?

Exclamation

I would look harder for oil leaks. Mine was leaking a small amount of oil onto the turbo which produced a burning smell like that.

Question

I would be interested if anyone has found a small oil leek, as I have the same symptons on a MY01 and the dealer has not been able to find it.

Gerg, Where was yours coming from?

Regards

Hi, I had this on my 95 car, and the fault was the driver side rocker cover gasket. When this is replaced or re-sealed (using the wet paste stuff as well, not just fitted dry) then the leak is sealed and no smell. If you search drivetrain section there could be more details. Not saying it is definately this, but check it out!

Unhappy

This happened on my MY94 WRX, the right hand rocker cover gasket has been replaced twice. Apparently it is a common problem, not expensive to fix if it works first time, but this can prove difficult to fix once the original gasket has been disturbed.
