Ok, we've all had the "0-60 times are pointless" threads etc, so I decided to do some in-gear times for my car (MY00 PPP). I then compared them against the Civic Type R, Astra Turbo and MG ZS 180 (as these figures came from a group test in Auto Express a few weeks back). Timing done by me in my head counting seconds (reasonably accurate as I'm used to keeping rhythm in music)...

Here are the results...

(Figures are in order of CTR, Astra, ZS, Scooby)

30-70 through gears: 5.8, 6.4, 6.8, 5.0 (or 6.0 for Scooby just in 3rd gear!)
30-50 in 3rd: 3.7, 3.9, 4.3, 3.5
40-60 in 4th: 5.2, 5.5, 5.9, 4.5
50-70 in 5th: 7.1 (8.5 in 6th), 8.0, 10.0, 7.0

All very impressive ! And considering that for the first part of the run, the turbo's not really up to speed as it's only running around 2000rpm in each gear - if it were one gear lower, the difference would be even more apparent.

Anyway I was quite chuffed How does this compare with what other people have found?

More accurate times will be available when I get a job and can buy one of those electronic timing gizmos .

Cheers
Richard

On this topic, does anyone know of any websites that have performance figures for various cars?
Evo only has 0-60 unfortunately.

Just had some fun lunchtime comparing figures.

I've only got a crap timer that resolves in seconds so this is pretty rough.

30-70 in 3rd - 3 runs giving 6, 5, 5
30-50 in 3rd - 3
40-60 in 4th - 4
50-70 in 5th - 8 best (gets bogged down at low rpm)

will try again when I get a better timer.

MY97 UK with unichip, does not get flying until +3000rpm.

Plus those times above are more a mark of flexibility rather than performance surely - 30-50 in 3rd, 40-60 in 4th.....when do you ever boot it in 3rd doing only 30mph ?
50-70 in 3rd or 80-100 in 4th is more a measure of performance.
As mentioned above there aren't enough revs on the clock for it to be a performance test - the turbo cars & the high reving honda will feel much more at home.

Suprised the Civic did so well considering its power band is between 6-8000 rpm.

STI 7 PRODRIVE
0-60 Under 5

50-70 in 5th about 4 secs.

6 speed box and the gears are stacked different from a 5 speed still not bad though.

Orwella,

The Civic is not too bad as 80% of its torque is avialable from 2500rpm, max is only 144lb/ft though. The main reason it posts good in gear times are its gearing, 3rd would be nearer 2nd in the scoob. Even 6th gear in the Civic is less than 20mph/1000rpm.

when i test drove a sti7 (4800 miles) i took along my little stopwatch so i could compare my my00 to it 30-70 in gears 5.2 everytime mine does 4.2 everytime
dont flame me for being anti sti7 just noting the comparison
thats why most sti7 owners are desparate for the ppp

Must be a bitch on the motorway, not to mention eat the juice. I was quite surprised to find the 5th gear on the scoob is quite high, about 2750 RPM at 70 which is good for cruising and it will still pull no probs cos of the torque.
