Hey all, I've just bought my 1st Subaru.
I dont know if all you guys have experienced the same sort of ignorance with how much you can afford, but after test driving it, I could think ONLY 1 THING...... I MUST HAVE IT !!
I was planning on getting a UK MY00 Scoob but after driving this........well, you know the rest. I had always wanted my Subaru to be a black one and the only ones I knew of were the McRae, and the Catalunya editions. Both were too old for what I wanted.
I would love to post a picture of it, granted, its only small, but if I knew how to post one, I would. (Expecting some instructions.....) ;-)
Scott
PS What do you guys recon I got it for, Black, Water Injection, 19,500 miles...
Awaiting 27th (I'm 25) and then the 29th (I pick it up)

Another black Type R Man!
Looked at the other colours and found IMO the black looks the best.
Shows off the bodykit, gold alloys and Sti red interior.
Im afraid u spend the whole time washing it since it shows the dirt up. HAve put red sti 'second hand' mudflaps to cure this problem to a certain degree.
Also superficial scratches show more easily due to no black primer underneath the main black paintwork (mine is Version 5..might be different for others?).
Have had various mods to improve looks, performance and handling.
Hope u enjoy as much as i do!
Will post pics when get round to it.

Hey,
I thought black looks the best too.
I'm used to washin motas cos my last car was a concours Mk2 Golf with an Audi TT engine ;-) That surprised a few scoobys in its time, but non like this one !! Christ its rapid !
Think I will have to get some red Sti mudflaps on it, any suggestions on where I can get some from ?
Whats the spec of yours, I know mines had some water injection on it, not sure of the model but I think it’s the version V cos the rear spoiler isn't angled, its nearly flat.
Only thing that concerns me about it is the running costs........what mpg do you get out of yours driven sensibly, i.e. £ ?? For a full tank and how many miles do you get out of it ?
What mods would you recommend ? Not that I can afford any at the mo having just bought a house too, I have a credit card bill and Tracker to pay off now too, that will probably take me about 2 years (sulk sulk)
Regards
Scott
PS How old are you and whos ur insurance with ? Mines through Tesco's, I'm 25 and paying £1092

The Type R is all about Torque and how much it puts down on the road. Hence your reference to 'rapid'.
Got my mudflaps second hand from the SIDC forum. Paid around 60 nicker. They look ok and fit thank fek. Graham Goode charge 3-400 quid which i think is very pricey for a bit of rubber and could get nicked anyway! Would get some second hand like that bloke selling them on this post.
My Type R Version 5 has an angled rear spoiler like the 22b. It has an intercooler waterspray and manual limited slip differential in the middle handbrake console. You spoiler is nearly flat? Could be a version 3/4. How much u pay and from where?
Running costs are ok if you find an import specialist near you who will not charge the earth. Should be serviced every 3500 miles. Fuel is ok if you do not boot the throttle the whole time. I use optimax or superunleaded. Never use the normal unleaded or run into engine problems later. HAve bought Millers Octane Booster if no superunleaded nearby.
For a full tank (45 quid) does around 250-280 miles if not boot. Bootin' around town then MPG drops below 10!
I would not mess with the engine too much. You have enough power anyway! I have a Blitz Nur Spec exhaust to make some noise, a blitz Super Sound Dump Valve to make some more noise, 17-inch gold rims, a front lip spoiler, Engine chip re-map for increased grunt and the steering geometry has been tweaked so she corners likes shes on rails.
I am 30 and with Tesco too. Paying the same as you with 3 points on my licence (damn speed camera.grrrrrr). Had to have tracker fitted too!
Will post pics when get my digital camera working!
Hope all this helps
