So, what was your first car then ?

You know, when you first passed your test, and you couldn't afford a pukka car. You bought a cheapo and made the mods you could afford, like a stainless steel end pipe to your exhaust. Little slide on hands that went on your tailgate, the old webber-twin choke, that made fekk all difference, cheapy alloys etc

My first car was a Mark 1 Astra. Reed Green. Cost me £500. Cost £150 for choke kit. Couldn't afford new wheels, so spent all week-end rubbing the old ones down, and getting some "silver wheels"

The interior was kack, but was the dogs, after I had sprayed it with "new car" spray. 0-60 in approx 12 seconds. Was fekkin heavy, especially after I had pushed the bugger to start it (battery and alternator bust, but I couldn't afford to fix em)£ engines, and 25 to the gallon.

That WAS a crap car, but I have more memories from that car than any other car I have had since.

Any tales of nostalgia ?

My first vehicle was given to me by my dad for passing my test, a 1979 T reg morris marina? (Van I passed my test in 1986.) dark blue with my dad's company painted all over it. I promptly backed it into a low wall the first day because I couldn't see out the back properly!!

Ah those were the days.

You call that a crap car? Try a Ford Pop. Black (only colour they did, cart springs all round, front beam axle, 900cc side valve engine, you name it, it didn't have it. Turned it over at less than 30mph and wore off the door handles.
My next car was a Vauxhall Victor...
The second model Victor was called the FB, mine was the one before. Work it out.

Big Goon

It's a small world,do you realise they only sold 1 of each and we got them, boy collectors pieces now.

withour a doubt your Ital was condiderably faster than my marina, but mine had the LOOKS to kill at 30 paces. Usually due to my drivin with the optional paper bag on.

hawkeye

ps Hope to see you in your sti7 sometime.

I had a Ford Fiesta van - on permanant loan from Dad.

Spent loads of time finding luxuries for it - like a glove box door and a stereo that played tapes!

And the best mod was, of course the salvaged RS bodykit. Didn't look bad when I got it painted....

Dont tell me you had a mattress in the back of your van too ?

I blew the engine about 2 weeks after I got it, so my dad went round my aunts house while she was on holiday, and nicked the engine out of her 1700 Marina, that was real power, none of this hi-tech jap malarkey.

Any Ital van drivers want to swap for my new STi7 when it arrives ?

Mine was a 1988 Mk2 golf 1.3 i bought it on christmas eve 2years ago for 400 quid. And shunted another car shortly after i got it fixed up tho, and looking pretty good but it failed it's MOT on about 15 points So i bought an Impreza instead, and never looked back although i have to admit, it was quite sad to see it go, even tho it was almost a deathtrap it had a lot of character

Crush.

F*rd Escort mk1 1100 "Deluxe" (ie: bog standard, not even a radio!) By the time I sold it, it looked like a rally car--lights, interior, bucket seats , instruments, switches etc. The kids where I taught (at the time i was mad enough to teach), nearly cried when I sold it for a mk1 Mexico!!!
BTW: isn't a "Sphyncter" another name for a dump valve?????????????????

N-reg Vauxhall Corsa...sparkly-est car you've ever seen! Quoted 0-60 in 18 seconds if I recall correctly...eventaully got wipped out on the M1 by a portugesse lorry driver who couldn't be a*sed to check his mirrors, bounced off the crash barrier after being pushed along by the lorry apparently if I hadn't had a tow bar it would have exploded!! Still, I had no worse an injury than whiplash - he even started up again when i can to a halt in the middle lane so I could drive onto the hard shoulder with 3 wheels...Corsas are quality cars

...replaced with...P reg Corsa - same colour tow bar fitted before it left the garage Well...if you're onto a good thing - his still our shopping car to save scoob from the dinks.

Ford Escort 1600 sport with full RS2000 interior and wheels
OH and janspeed exhaust and K&N air filter.
I used to have real fun in this car in the days before speed cameras and petrol less than £1 a gallon ...ahhh those were the days.
After I crashed it I bought a flat nose RS2000 with a blue printed engine and twin 40 webbers, damn that thing shifted

Vauxhall Corsa, of the 1.2i Merit variety! Brand new it was too, L reg..... I remember trying to race my mate, who had an XR2 and he absolutely embarassed me, even by the time I was up to about 25mph, he had gone! How slow was that thing! Slightly moved up in performance since and currently have an Evo V.....
