Default Bug eye

Hi all
To cut a long story short.
My son bought himself a blob eye WRX, which I must say I really like.
So I've decided to enter the world of Impreza
I like the look of the bug eye and seen 2 I going to view
1st is a dark blue WRX.
2nd is a WRX wagon stated as a P1 limited edition
It's states that also on the guv MOT checker
My question is does anyone have any info or spec to this as I cannot find out anything on the net about it.
Thanks in advance

there were never any new-age P1'a, and certainly not Wagons...........it was a 99/00 model only in the 'classic' 2door body shape

Thanks guys
It's a bit strange to be listed as a P1 especially on guv site.
So in short it's not genuine.maybe avoid

The fact that it's incorrectly registered as a P1 wouldn't put me off. It's not like it's pretending to be a P1 - it's a completely different car (like a Mondeo being registered as an XR4i)
I'd be more concerned that it hasn't had an MoT for almost 2 years and has only driven 2k in that time. Needs 4 new tyres. New brake discs, probably new calipers (or at least an overhaul). Almost certainly a full service, all fluid & filters. Probably plugs and fuel pump. Battery if stood for a long time. When was the cambelt done? Looks presentable enough but they rust from underneath and inside out. Difficult to say much more without viewing it. Did I mention rust?

What's the dark blue one you're also considering?

The fact that the dealer is falsely advertising it as a P1 2 door, knowing it is neither, would be enough for me to walk away

It's been mistakenly registered as a P1, as per the MoT history. I don't think that the dealer is trying to fool anyone. They're just a run of the mill dealer with a forecourt full of euro-boxes, who don't know what they have. They don't mention P1 anywhere in the description.

Sure. There is this UK one that looks in good condition and has had a lot of recent money spent on it (although I'd question the "enthusiast owner" comment - who puts different tyres front and rear on a 4WD car?!)
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/146919340...Bk9SR563jYXTZg

And then there is this import, which is the one that I would scrape my pennies for. Lose the front dam and replace some of the interior trim and it's proper bargain to my eyes:

Looks like it ended an hour ago! May still be for sale...

Buy wagon bug sti, gearbox and brakes are worth 4k over wrx.
In 2009 i paid 6k for wrx sedan but should stretch to 8.5k for 2003 sti.

Yeah saw that at £5k on Facebook.

Have you looked at the MoT history? It's done 6k in 10 years and every MoT is either a fail or advisory for rust, corrosion, deterioration....etc

You could ask whether they have receipts for all the bodywork remedial work first? You really need it on a lift to see properly.

Not especially, no. Certainly not enough to be a factor.

What you do get is a car with substantially less rust (if any), a more powerful engine with higher compression ratio & variable vale timing, closer ratio gearbox and typically less miles and better maintained.

On the down side; you can't see it yourself, you have to wait months for it to be shipped, they aren't as cheap as they used to be. If you bought through Japanese classifieds, you aren't getting much change out of £9k landed and taxed. Better bargains are to be had via the auctions but that comes with it's own complications. That's why that one on ebay looked a good deal - they probably bought it through auction for 60% of a dealers price.

You're looking at £13k+ to import a decent Newage STi now.

I bought a 2002 about 11 years ago for less than £2k - was the cheapest in the country at the time. 120k and the arches were already starting to blister. Wasn't worth my while fixing them. I did 60k in 4 years in it. By that time it was pretty rotten everywhere and the motor was tired. Never failed an MoT though. I got rid of that to a chap on here for a few hundred quid. I replaced it with a 2005 that I've had for 6 years and is currently on 125k. That's getting pretty crusty underneath too. Again, it's not worth my while fixing it; it doesn't owe me anything. I reckon I've got another couple of years before the MoT tester takes a real interest. I'd rather spend the money on keeping the mechanicals sweet than it's appearance. And once they start rusting, it's not cheap to fix properly and rust proof/paint etc. I'd rather spend £4-6k towards importing a low mileage, rust free Jap import than throwing cash at fixing a UK car.

That's not so say you shouldn't buy a UK car but go in with your eyes open; decide what you want to invest and how long you want the car for. I certainly wouldn't be looking at cars that have years of Mot advisories for rust. Even if you buy a nice clean example, you could easily spend a couple of grand straight way refreshing the suspension, brakes, tyres, full service etc.

Yes 4k for wrx ,rust issues will cost You another 4k+ or way more.
On sti import You have 6 speed and brembos worth 4k ,better engine etc and price will stay firm where on wrx will be 6k max when You sort rust issues.
Yes import could have some issues to.

Its not only welding ,rust will be on subframes, sway bars, links, struts and other parts.
i would not pay 500 quid for UK WRX
Instead of double a budget to sort wrx i would add more for and go with fresh import STI

Aftermarket wheels but would prefer them than oem.
Take off that rear end plastic from sills, from rear end look underside on subframe and other parts. Open boot ,take off spare wheel look for rust, open filter flap ,close to boot lock.
Look on front turrets when You open a boot, front crash bar etc.
Look on a stance,it is soft and high.
I had one did 100mph and it was handling like a boat.
As previous owner of wrx my advice is do not buy,go with Sti import if You can
Sti seats, cluster, steering wheel, suspension, bigger intercooler, turbo, brake system as a whole,6 speed etc are worth at least 6k over wrx price plus avcs engine helps with turbo spool etc.
Uppipe with no cat and list goes on.
Jdm sedan sti should come with dccd in blob for example.
You will have perfect car ,Yes more expensive but worth it.

Aftermarket I think. They look like OZ Supertourismo copies. Could be wrong though.

The exhaust isn't standard. And it's on Japanese style plates.
