Default No boost/power loss all of a sudden?

Turbo failed 2 months ago, reconditioned and refitted the standard td04, ran fine for 2 months then noticed that the pick up seemed lazy on the cruise control on motorway journeys, now the car has no power like a non turbo, turbo spools but no power and the car just revs like a n/a, dump valve sound no more, switched back to factory recirculating valve incase the bov was leaking, made no difference, no cracks or lose hoses, no smoke no engine warning light, where you normally feel the turbo around 3k revs its just making what I can only explain as like a air filter noise, running no induction, standard air box and again all hoses etc are fine? 2010 2.5 WRX hatchback

Maybe a Boost solenoid issue , worth giving it a clean with a bit of carb cleaner see if it has an impact , I had a boost issue a while ago , it came down to spark plugs , plugs looked fine but for some reason not working , if that’s not happening worth a bit of a strip down just to check all pipes and connections , are connected properly and not leaking , not easy to diagnose without a cel or something more obvious 👍

thanks and yes I know its not easy to diagnose without a cel, 2 mechanics have been unable to get to the bottom of it, the mechanic who done the turbo is away for a week, so looks like I might just have to wait it out, car seems to be getting to its running temperature faster than usual but not over heating, exhaust has gone quiet and you can hear the engine rev over it

I know it isn't because there's no warning light but it sounds almost like the limp mode i had when I pulled out to overtake on a dual carriageway and it froze at 3000rpm limit with no boost.

Check the watergate arm on the turbo, it could have seized open.

Again it’s throwing ideas , is the fuel pump failing and therefore not enough pressure so dets happening and therefore limp mode , a simple gauge for 10£ will answer that , if boost solenoid is not working you get around .5 of a bar of boost 👍

5th Impreza over 22 years and the 1st 1 I well and truly regret and am beginning to actually hate, all my others have been older 2 litre models and I'm kind of pissed at myself for trusting the brand and not researching the 2.5 litre before buying 1.
starting to see Subaru as a dead brand that truly deserves it.

All makes of cars throw up issues , my gtr cooling fans both failed , took me two days plus, to swap them out , the whole front end , rads , coolers , inter cooler , bumper , spitter and two under trays had to come off , pig of a job , Forster would be 20 mins for the same job , the 2.5 is a better driving engine than the 2 litre , just not as strong , im just getting my last of 4 Fsti engine forged ££ but I don’t regret doing it as the last forged engine went past 198k miles 👍

love the car to drive but we've not owned this a year and it's off the road for the 3rd time already, we suspect a failed turbo again after just under 1k miles, maybe a worn crank bearing can't make the correct oil pressure

I have never had the issue , but sump oil pick up pipes can fail , the pre failure is low oil pressure on start up so you dash oil light flickers or takes a while to go out , the oil pressure to the turbo I have heard is quite low pressure , so I would expect less likely to fail , hopfully what ever it is is an easy fix and not too pricy a fix , a had a random boost fault could not work out what it was , and all it was it needed new plugs , the original plugs were not worn and were fine , it was very frustrating but got there in the end

all hoses seem fine, solenoid and actuator seem fine, the cars still making no boost, if you rev it standing it revs freely but lazy, bov blows off slightly and there's some kind of crackle noise when you let off

Try a bit of carb cleaner in the solenoid first , if it improves and stays that way job done , if it works for a short while then plays up again then you may have the issue 👍😁

You say the actuator seems fine, are you sure the wastegate inside the turbo is fully closed? It’ll be worth taking the actuator rod end of the watergate arm and checking it moves freely and that it’s closing all the way.

Garage that did the turbo have now looked and couldn't see anything immediately wrong with it, waiting for space on his ramps to get the downpipe off to check the cats and turbo

It's alive again! Down pipe cat had collapsed and gone down the pipe into the main cat, complete blockage
all sorted now

Not too bad then , an easy fix , time to get rid of the mid section cat , you get a bit more burble and better flow 👍😁
