MY2000 Classic no start
Hi All! As above, cranks over but doesn't fire. Question: can anyone tell me if the immobiliser was on would it still crank..this being a MY2000. Thanks!
I believe for a MY2000 UK car you have 2 immobilisers
1. OEM Immobiliser - key transponder chip working in conjunction with Immobiliser ECU and Engine ECU (Red Key Symbol on dash)
2. If still fitted - Sigma Alarm - Possibly 2 immobiliser circuits present, usually fuel pump cut out and/or starter motor circuit.
If a key's transponder signal is not recognized by the ECU or is not present, say using a nonchipped cut key or a cut STI Titanium key, you can usually turn the engine over but it will fail to start.
Red key light on dash will stay illuminated?

Just to confirm that if the immobiliser hasn't been deactivated, you get the flashing red light and it won't crank - it's a dead key turn.
My own 2000MY was suffering badly with the radio mast issue last year which was making the car undriveable , so I had the OEM Sigma removed and a new car 1 immobiliser alarm fitted. The other issue I had with it not starting 5 years ago was fixed by Subaru who had a known dry solder issue on the control unit which meant that the fuel pump circuit was dead.
Good luck!

Don't think it's the ecu is linked up with the key on 1999-2000 models, only on earlier models. On the 1999-2000 models you can swap ecu's around workout coding new ecu in. But I think the module is separate on those models not linked to ecu.
