What is the best thing to do with an old downpipe?
I replaced this some months ago, you can just about make out in the picture below where it has been welded on the bend.
Been on the car for I believe over a decade and one too many heat cycles has left it very thin in places and not really usable.
Do these fetch money at disposal business for the precious materials in the CAT?

Yes I believe that it is a prodrive sports cat but I don't think that it is usable, it has been welded several times over the last few years as the metal has worn through. It's very thin in places and I am pretty sure it is leaking exhaust fumes.
Definitely not safe to run without someone investigating it further.

Yeah scrap yards and car breakers buy them but you need to take ID and you won't get cash, it's pay by bank transfer. Same with your old battery... but usually there's a minimum amount, around £20, so one old battery will get you £4 - 5s, so save it up and take it in with other stuff to make up the amount.

I checked a couple of months back and was told the scrap price had really dropped so to hold it for a while till it recovers. It should fetch you several hundred pounds as scrap so don't give it away.

I will see what the scrappers say, not sure I should be selling based on the condition. Like I say pretty sure it's leaking so too dangerous for daily use.

Having said that, given that it's a PPP sports cat with decat centre section too, you could definitely stick it up on ebay. I'd start it at 100 or so, and obviously point out that it might be leaking etc. A leak in an exhaust is not such a big deal for someone with a welder, for example.

Thanks all,
I will stick it up on eBay and see how I get on.
Will post up a link on here when I get round to it.
If anyone reading this is thinking of buying please be mindful of the condition. This will need to be assessed by a professional before fitting.
I am not confident that it is fully sealed.

Well if you think about it the OEM cats have to comply with strict EU emissions tests when new. The Prodrive performance exhaust is fitted as part of the PPP at the dealers. So all it then had to do is get through an mot emissions test. Believe the kit gets fitted after sale.
