Default Different tyre brands for front and rear

Not something I usually do but, at present I am running Goodyear eagle F1's all round (215/45/17). The front suspension looks like it badly needs an alignment as the outer tread of both fronts has scrubbed to literally nothing. I was planning to replace with the Goodyear's again and then get the alignment sorted but have noticed the pilot sports 4's are a comparable price and quite fancied trying them.

What are peoples thought's on running different premium tyres on the back to the front?

My car is an 07 350bhp WRX wagon on BC coilovers.

I found the PS4's to be head and shoulders above the F1's. I'm sure it's fine to run different front and back but I'd put 4 PS4's on as it'll handle better in every situation (imo).

My understanding from various reviews is the sidewall stiffnesses go from PS4S > GY AS5 > PS4. I've got the S on my F31 335d and AS5's on the Impreza. Obviously relative weights have a massive impact as the sidewalls on the BMW feel squidgy still whereas the GY on the Impreza give great stiffness and precision. I don't think you'll go far wrong with either, they're both top tier performance tyres that are very, very close in the tests,

I have Michelin PS4 on mine (and PS4S on my other non Subaru car), they're a great tyre and much better than the F1's I used to have. Michelins also last longer, no idea what magic they use to do that. Check and see if Michelin have a cash back offer on too, I've always used that in the past.

Doesnt matter if you have different brands back and front as long as they are the same size, only difference you will get is different coefficients of grip due to different brand but given you probably wont be driving flat out everywhere itll not be noticeable with both being a premium tyre

is it frowned upon? Not really unless you're selling the car and then certain types would note a car with all same brand all round as a car that gets looked after

Ended up going with the Goodyear's again, Asymmetric 5's this time. KwikFit had a deal on, £85 each fitted each all in.
