Easily avoided by using an established and reputable agent; given the demand in the US for these cars I'm guessing he went for a " too good to be true" price and went direct to a forecourt trader.
I've warned a couple of people on here about how notorious the Japanese 2nd hand car market is when they've asked my opinion on heavily modded forecourt cars in Japan.
This is a good lesson for those who want to save money by cutting corners, although I wasnt thanked for my blunt advice.
