Driving 50 miles to get an MOT
I am going to need to pick my car up from 50 miles away and the tax and mot have run out.
I want to get my car to my local garage for an Mot and to do any work required, I am thinking to book it in on the day i bring it back to comply with the law. However i cant see any see any rules/ restrictions on distance to MOT stations
Any Ideas?

You might consider taking out special one-day insurance cover 'cos I bet yours won't be valid with no mot and tax. Then if you get flagged by the cops....

I think you may find that's wishful thinking! Take a look at the small print. Not taxed and no mot is a recipe for invalid cover unless you take out specific insurance. I'd consider getting it trailored, tho having 24 hour special cover may be a bit cheaper.

When can you drive without MOT?
The only time you can legally drive without an MOT is when you’re travelling to and from a pre-booked MOT appointment. It is a legal requirement to take your car for an MOT every year if your vehicle is over three years old. Your local MOT centre is under no obligation to remind you when your next test is, so mark it in your diary or set a reminder on your phone.Trending Topics

Technically you can only take it to the closest MOT centre. However, documentation showing you've just bought the car and a pre-booked MOT appointment showing the reg No would be a good defence. Your biggest enemy is automated ANPR cameras. They simply snap your picture and send a summons. A prowling copper will probably listen to reason and exercise discretion.
Whatever hapens, it's still an offence to drive an unroadworthy car.
