Default Is it cheaper to import from the USofA

If my math is right it's a steal getting the weather strips from American than here?

Am I right? I've allocated 20%vat 4% customs and they use FedEx so the shipping should be paid their end.

The total postage is double the cost of 1 unit and the seller said it should be a lot cheaper than listed $60 per side($120 via the website) as it'll be combined. - I allocated $100.

Vat is charged on the total of goods + delivery charge + import duty + Fedex's handling fee.

I was hoping the fedex fee was in the delivery charge as they use fedex.
I worked the vat on the total ($400ish) with the workings out being £6 cheaper - which as the company have said the postage should be a lot cheaper so this £6 should hopefully be more.

in general if you add +25% to the total its a decent guide I find.........

bear in mind that most won't guarantee damage free shipping in the UK so personally I woudln't be getting them all the way from the US

They are only rubber strips. I wouldn't if it was glass or plastics.

Thanks for this. I love when I get confirmation that importing is cheaper. And it should be even cheaper with the postage they listed was 1 item x 2 postage rather than combined.

Just got to wait for the bush fires to calm down

On your estimations, your going to save between £0 and £18.
As someone who's been importing from the US for 40 years, don't waste your time, with this supplier.

Don't expect them to over-ride the estimated shipping calculation - it sometimes gets forgotten.

This one is set-up better for international deliveries:
https://estore.subarupartswarehouse.com/

You'll probably get some different cost, carrier options, at final checkout:
DHL - good
Fedex - OK
UPS - no

Gift is individual to individual, not Company to individual.
You still get charged VAT over a value of £39 gift and import duty over £135 gift.
They could lie on their Customs declaration as to value - illegal/big risk for them + you'd be stuffed for insurance, if it got damaged/lost, as they could only insure to the declared value.

I've imported some Perrin stuff before, saved about £6 on a £350 item by the time the handling fee was added. Plus there's no realistic chance of returns or dealer backup.

You may be lucky.
Or, more probably, you will shortly receive a letter in the post. This will be a request for payment.

"FedEx pays the Duty and Tax charges on your behalf to ensure we can deliver your shipment as quickly as possible. This incurs an administration fee of 2.5% of the combined Duty and VAT charge or £12.00 (whichever is greater)."

https://www.fedex.com/en-gb/billing/duty-tax.html
