im not too clued up mate and I haven’t seen the rest of your car underneath but I’d get something like clear dinotrol as the subframes look great and the black dinotrol will hide how good they look. If you have lots of other rusty areas then I’d get them refreshed first then get the clear dinotrol. If you have a WR1 as in your name then we all know they can suffer from rust. my 2005 widetrack has rusty rear trailing arms and anti roll bars but it was undersealed from new so the important bits like suspension turrets are fine. I’m getting it all refreshed then undersealed with clear dinotrol to preserve the car AND just in case I ever decide to sell up. The suspension turrets are rotten on some of our cars now and it will cost a fortune to fix. Make sure to take pictures of the underneath as well before and after the treatment. There are some right horror stories out there mate. 👍👍🤞

thanks I’ll take a look at the dinitrol 👍🏻
I’m new to subaru’s But intend to do what the car needs to get it into a good nick again. The car looks like it was well looked after to begin with but a couple of owners have neglected it so just time and money holding it back 😂
just fitted full new bc coil overs on it as had bc er series previously but tops were pinging and could probably do with an overhaul but may be of use to someone or for spares???? Also have bought new alloy rad and full exhaust system to go on including new Harvey uppipe from @stockcar on here so a bit at a time should see it right.
yes it is a WR1 and my name is Alan btw

good to meet you Alan, I’m Dave 👍 So first thing I’d do is take it to a Subaru specialist and get the underside looked at. You could have holes like crumpets or worse on the sils or suspension turrets. That will cost a fortune to fix.

just one of many mate.

Btw mate chances are the car is fine! Just get it checked over top and bottom to check it’s fine, lots of horror stories out there. If you have a good clean example you have a car which will Minimum hold its value if not increase as it’s a rarer model although it’s abit of a marmite example but there are worse examples going up in value and the blobeye in my opinion is the best and will always sell providing it’s a good example 👍

It was at a Subaru specialist who told me it was in good nick underneath but subframes had seen better days, front panel at rad is showing signs of fatigue and someone has been jacking it in the sills folding them over! 🤯 but all fixable.
i wanted a subaru for a while but couldn’t afford to until now then this came up from a friend and local so had to have it and the difference in insurance from a blob sti to the wr1 was night and day for a 40 year old.
(me an the wife fully comp for £260 a year vs £600-£1200 for the sti ppp!!!)
dont mind a bit of work on it myself but other stuff I’ll get the garage to do save me lying in the ground 👍🏻
