Default How to remove

Hi all,

so I finally found a pipe I needed for my v1 sti with some paint damage on the intercooler.

i was thinking of using paint thinners to remove this in order to not cause any damage would this be ok or does anyone have any better ideas?

Thinners is best. Cellulose dissolves most paints. Hope it's not 2 pack. Brake fluid (non silickne) may also work but slowly. It has 2 advantages. It doesn't evaporate so stays on longer. Use old stuff, that way you put new in the brakes. 2 jobs for the price of one.
Avoid paint stripper.
If in doubt, try on the header tank. It's more robust.

ok so if I was to use thinners is this a case of letting it soak for some time or work with it strait away?

would be amazing if there was something that just makes it fall off but that would be too easy

You can straighten those fins with tweezers , if it were me I would dig the paint out with a pin or similar.

+2 for waste brake fluid...go to your friendly local garage with a large (leak proof) container and ask for some.

Put the intercooler in a old washing up bowl or baking tray pour over fluid and let it soak overnight, brushing some more over it every hour or so whenever you walk past. Once clean wash it off with a hose and soapy water.

Any leftovers makes for good weed and moss killer (so I’m told)

It also self heats when mixed with water!

It looks like the paint has soaked right through. Digging it out would be almost impossible.
Thinners or brake fluid, leave to soak and wash off.

Early STI coolers rarely come up for sale.
