From the block engine code you originally quoted [quote]The new engine code is ej20 s20c 701.[/quoted]
and looking at the casting mark listings in the linked thread http://www.clubsub.org.nz/forum/inde...dentification/
It's possible to conclude that the "BLOCK" or possibly the complete short engine (block plus internals) came from an V7 EJ207 engine. But that is as far as you can go without stripping the engine down to check.
The heads maybe original items transferred over. (V7 EJ207 complete engine came with AVCS )
What Model Year is this GC8 ?? Is it EDM or JDM ??

Originally fitted with an EJ205 engine and built in October 1999 so is a MY00 (2000) or as some like to call them a V6 (despite not being a JDM or an STI).
The V7 EJ207 block/small block/complete engine, whatever it is, will have come from a MY01 (2001) newage bugeye STI which would have had AVCS for the inlet valve cams.
The original EJ205 would not have it, so is one way of telling if the complete engine was fitted.

So it's an EDM (European Domestic Model - model code EC below) and LHD - so definitely not a JDM (Japanese Domestic Model)

In the historical list can find “sti block” but I’m not sure it’s right.
There is one more detail that I found:
63AB.
Thanks for the help

I would imagine 63AB refers to the block halves and bore size.
Diagram below shows info for an EJ25 engine (99.5mm bore sizes)
Some photos of the engine "may" shed some light.....

From this photo
it looks as if all the original EJ205 Ancilliaries have been refitted to the "new" short block.
If it's been in use for the past 5 years and it hasn't come to any harm, then it probably won't in the future.
