this should sway your decision (it applies to all years by the way)

Try and find one that's already been built, will you be looking for more power in the future? If so then you must budget in a rebuild on a 2.5.

I love blobs but they are now 14 years old so will have their own issues, I have a 2007 hawk and that's starting to show its age a little so which is the lesser of 2 evils........rust or engine, luckily my hawk had the engine built by the previous owner at scoobyclinic so it's a worry I haven't really got.

Factor in around 5k for a decent rebuild and dont settle for one that's just had the head gaskets done as the bottom end will likely fail soon after if un-touched.

that's the thing, add in £5000 for a rebuild and it then becomes an expensive car, think i will carry on looking for a blue wide track,if any one is thinking of selling pm me,thanks shrekster

There are quite a few forged hatches up for sale, and they are awesome daily cars once built well. However, there are alot of budget rebuilds around. Jdm hatches are about as well, still 2l.

I went through a similar thought process recently.

Blob Sti was always my "affordable dream car", after long search I bought a mint 2005 UK widetrack Sti for top money and spend £££ sorting out all the little niggles and making it perfect for me. I ended up selling it after only just over a year and got a 2008 2.5 UK sti hatch. Don't get me wrong, I loved the blob and on the right road at the right time it was just sublime and every drive was an event. But these cars are now 15 years old and come with their own problems, mainly rust, I also found I didn't drive it much as I was worried about putting miles on it and the car still seems to attract ********* on the road sometimes.

Went into the hatch with eyes wide open and obviously aware of the 2.5 problems, will just forge when it goes pop but it's a much more complete car, the 2.5 engine is a great road engine and I find the car is much quicker than my widetrack sti, even in standard form. It also flies under the radar nicely and is much more comfortable for longer journeys etc.
