Bugger ! 52 plated Sti bug
Just some advice please chap's, Car's been in storage for about 18 months now Due to lack of funds etc etc and family issue's.
Anyway i had the heads done about 12 months ago as the gaskets had gone.
Had the heads skimmed and had COMETIC HEAD GASKETs fitted.
Eventually decided i had enough money so got her taxed Mot'd and insured, happy days.
I took her out the other day and noticed when i got home a trail of water around the drive water appered to have been coming from the expansion tank.
Shut the bonnet and went in sulking .
Spoke to the guy who did it,and we went through a few things and he said maybe an airlock.
Ive noticed that there are air bubbles rising in the expansion bottle whilst the engine is idling, she doesnt overheat and drives very well.
I did notice though that when the water appeared i did give her a bit of a blast.
Question is ???? Any idea's
Cheers and sorry for long story......

Could well be right then, I would wait untill the car is cold, take the cap off your expansion tank, jack the drivers side up near the front and fire it up. Let it warm through and try to squeeze your hoses where you can.
This should free your air locks up.
if that doesnt work I would get the head tested i'm afraid.
Hope it goes well for you.

Hi mate, I'm kind of feeling for you here because you've had the heads done but the first early signs of the heads going is that on boost the expansion bottle behind the passenger headlight will bubble and spew coolant. Car will drive fine and show no other symptoms of HG failure at first and it usually will only spew coolant if you give it some boost. When my HG went it ran fine, Temp showed normal, no cold heater vents, no mayo and no pressurised hoses just a bubbling expansion bottle that spewed. Kev at Scooby clinic diagnosed it straight away and shortly after the other signs started to show up. Took the car off the road and rebuilt the full engine over the winter. Hope you get it sorted and I'm wrong. Steve

If you suspect airlocks you cannot bleed the subaru collant system. Best bet is to drain the coolant and refill using the hose that goes from the header tank to the turbo as that purges the air. Make sure you heater gauge is set to hot when you start. If that cures it great otherwise you could have HG issues again and I'd be looking for reasons why it would go after a year - is the block true or was it just a poor job last time

I've done it on a couple of occasions and never "failed".
Keep the head tank cap off, squeeze the lower and upper pipes and then run the engine with the cap off @ around 2k. This has always pushed any air locks I have had through the system out of the head tank (make sure the heater is on as you suggest).
I've physically seen the water level drop in the header tank when the lock is pushed through, so top up at that point. You sometimes need to do this a couple of times. I have certainly never had to drain the whole system and fill-up via the turbo..... ever.
I was told how to do this by Tracktive and the process has always worked for me.

how did subaru fill them if you cant bleed the airlocks out
its the same process on the vxl v6 jack front end up turn heater to hot ( as you will of set it to cold when draining to help prevent the air locks in the heater box) fil,l with coolant give pipes a squeeze then top up start the engine run it up to temp squeezin the pipes and raising the revs all with the cap off switch off leave to cool the top up repeat procees again if needed

I used a vacum filling device from the fitter at work when I had my civic type r as couldn't bleed it.. Push it into rad use the compressed air attached to the pump to vacum the system when it's complete it had a handle that u spun the other way which sucked up the water through a hose. Took literally 2 mins. No hassle
