Default Matching engine number to model

Hi All,

I'm currently in the process of installing a 2.1 stroker on a closed deck block in my UK blob. I don't have any history for the block itself. My insurance company are asking me to provide the original model the engine came out of, is there any way of finding this out from the engine number only? If not, are there any tell tale signs? I've been searching various websites and google but can only find the engine codes list, I only have the engine number though.

Thanks in advance for helping out!
Adam.

will just have been a 2.0, either wrx or sti engine depending on which model you have. Engine type code will be on the vin plate, you wont need the actual engine number.

Can find it as follows, Second code up from bottom right

Thanks. I don't have the VIN though, I only have the 6 digit stamp on the block.

Does it really matter, just make any model up. The insurance company will know no different.

Lol!
That is the plan if there is no way of finding out.
Just wanted to check first in case there is a way and then I get shafted later on!

Usually a white sticker on the center timing cover with a bar code and designation code but if you only have the crankcases then just use model number from an STi Version 2 RA

Maybe a dealer can put the engine number into their national system and find out which model it came from?

Really, it's as unique as a chassis number, so you may get a result if you call a few dealers and ask....
