Default New MOT requirement

Had my A/C regassed yesterday. The garage does all my MOT tests and tipped me off that manual headlight leveling systems (switch on dashboard) are now checked as part of the MOT. He's failed a number of cars in the last few weeks.
Now they just need to get numpty drivers to use it.

I thought they get to test reversing lights now? Although my mot place didn't. That could be a problem for some owners. As some after market headlights have manual adjustment only. So in that case just remove the switch.

An awful lot of new rule brought out in May. Basically if its fitted it has to work. Engine management light is a fail but a wee bit of info. Only on post 2008 vehicles for the later.

Steering airbags must now be present if they were OE.

Do you mean that EML is fail, but for 2008 cars onwards only?

Awesome, that is some good news at least!

As a tester, how would you view aftermarket *seats* now in a bug/blob WRX? They have integrated airbags, where-as the STI equivalent doesn't.. would you now consider this to be a fail?

A lot of grey areas in the new rules and it would possibly have a lot to do with how much the tester knows about a specific car. Basically if its there its got to work i.e. fog/driving lights reverse light is now a minor but you need three minors for a fail. The top and bottom of it if you've no dash lights on and everything else is sound you'll be ok.

Reverse light not working is now a fail not a minor.
Are you saying if you get 3 minors then it's an instant fail?
First I've heard of that mate.

That depends on your jurisdiction.
As said before a lot of grey areas.

So if you have a after market steering wheel with no air bag but no air bag light on that's a fail

Grey area in my eyes.

NOT IN USE? carnt be a fail its there in black and white.

Now if there was a light on indicating a fault and no airbag thats a different ball game

Now if theres no trace of an airbag system how can you test it if its clearly not present?

If it had a system and there was obviously bits missing like the wheel was there and the bag was gone then i understand completely.

Main reason I didnt get a snap on wheel . Air bag at mot time.

As for the manual adjuster, what do they fail it for? If it's on zero or something

The manual adjuster must work. Headlights on. Twiddle the control and the beams must both move.

A workmate also said that if your car has any oil leaks, that's an MoT failure also.

If you have an oil leak which creates a 75mm puddle in 5 mins...that's a fail, slight leak isn't
does not include coolant or fuel additive container's under the car....

Just ordered these plates for my car and realised they don't have the BS mark or company that made them.
Is this an mot fail?
