Looking at a grade r car
hi folks, been a while since I posted, last had a v6 type r limited about 4 years ago and looking to get back into a Subaru, this time a bugeye of some description.
looking at an imported bugeye s202 which was graded ‘r’ on its auction sheet.
im very interested in the car but not sure about the r grading if it’s anything to be concerned about.
on another note how rare is a white bugeye sti wagon?

Not seen the car yet or the auction grading documentation.
seller said that cars can get an r grading if they have been modified and had replacement parts fitted them said it’s maybe had a wing.
alarm bells are starting to ring but I’m awaiting pics of the auction sheet which he said he would send.

I would think it’s fairly easy to doctor a copy of the auction sheet to hide the xxx that show where the damage was, so be careful. If you’re serious about the car, spend £25 to obtain a report that gives you the real auction sheet with pics at the auction and any other history. Can’t remember the company that does it off the top of my head.

Grade R can vary from a replaced panel, aftermarket bumper to a complete wreck... also varies from auction house to auction house... a grade 3.5 in one house could be a grade R in another

If you have an opportunity to see the car before committing then it’s happy days... a quick look over and you will spot any heavy impact areas, rust etc etc... be suspicious of cars covered in undersealer !!! If I had a good clean car I would let a buyer see it before undersealing and let the new owner decide if they wanted it done or not

interior-grade c the last time it was sold pre export.
exterior-looks like its had a boot lid, back panel and a bumper plus a 1/4 panel repair.
dent on the bonnet,au scratches on the offside doors and light scratches on the pass doors.
add in that r marker and I’m not going to touch it at the price being asked.
looking at an sti bug with roof flap, brembos, some nice mods but it’s black/blue pearl and not white so completely the wrong colour 😩

They have been grading cars at an "R" even if they have aftermarket parts not necessarily a damaged car, as from what iv seen the damaged ones that are coming over are mainly being stripped for parts as there is good coin in that line off work,
