Default Rear mains and oil separator

Is it common for the rear mains to leak and the oil separator. Was the oil separator made from a different material on the 97 uk2000. When I had my 2000 forester turbo it was an alloy looking plate

Early ones I believe were plastic...........

and upgraded to alloy

I have a leak .gonna take the gearbox off in October and soft it out. I did the front mains a few months ago
